The Kids Pastor is responsible for leading and cultivating a thriving children’s ministry that reflects the heart, mission, and values of Catch The Fire. This leader will equip and disciple volunteers to raise up kids with a strong foundation of the Word of God, who know the Father’s heart, experience the presence of Jesus, and are led by the Holy Spirit. The Kids Pastor will also oversee strategic planning and ministry systems that support smooth operations, and champion the children’s ministry as a vital pathway for healing, belonging, growth, equipping, and activation for both kids and their families.

Kids Pastor Position Accountabilities:

Leadership & Vision:

• Lead and cultivate a thriving Kids Ministry that reflects the heart, values, and presence-driven culture of Catch The Fire Raleigh-Durham.

• Cast clear spiritual and practical vision for raising Spirit-led kids who are grounded in God’s Word, confident in their identity, and equipped to transform the world around them.

• Build and empower a leadership team of volunteers through intentional training, discipleship, fellowship, and Spirit-led mentoring that becomes a team of multiplying leaders.

• Create a culture where kids’ ministry is not childcare, but a place of encounter, growth, and activation in the gifts of the Spirit.

Recruitment, Development & Pastoral Care:

• Proactively recruit, background check, onboard, and place volunteers (teachers, assistants, check-in, special needs buddies) into roles that match their gifts and availability.

• Ensure all team members complete background checks, and any required certifications or training classes (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Growth Track), reinforcing a safe, joy-filled environment.

• Equip volunteers through initial onboarding training including but not limited to classroom duties, safety procedures, and ongoing training.

• Lead in-person training sessions throughout the year for the Kids Ministry team focusing on vision casting, practical skill-building, safety updates, and team alignment.

• Provide regular mentoring, encouragement, and spiritual support to team members through coffee/lunch meetups, check-ins, and prayer.

• Send out all curriculum and resources that leaders need in a timely manner.

• Prayerfully select and develop curriculum that trains children in Scripture, strengthens their identity in Christ, and empowers them to walk in the Spirit and encounter God’s presence.

• Equip Kids Ministry volunteers using a “model, mentor, multiply” approach.

• Foster close, ongoing relationships with all Kids Min leaders through regular check-ins, encouragement, and spiritual support.

• Encourage each leader to pursue a personal journey of heart healing and ongoing growth.

Systems & Administration

• Maintain all Kids Ministry scheduling, rosters, and classroom details in Planning Center, including volunteer teams, service times, and classroom capacities.

• Maintain all Kids Ministry rosters and email list. Run monthly audits on both rosters and email lists.

• Train volunteers on how to use Planning Center for scheduling, communication, and check-in procedures, ensuring smooth weekly operations.

• Create and manage a yearly ministry calendar including seasonal curriculum schedules, events, trainings, and special Sundays (e.g., Move-Up Sunday, Family Sundays, Game Nights, and Outreaches).

• Oversee the Kids Min yearly budget.

• Coordinate with the Media and Events teams to promote key Kids Ministry events and ensure all deadlines for promotion materials are met.

• Oversee classroom capacity planning and check-in procedures, ensuring systems are in place to support safety, efficiency, and hospitality for families.

• Support the implementation of policies, safety protocols, and volunteer onboarding systems in collaboration with church leadership and HR/safety teams.

Position Qualifications

• A deep love for Jesus, His presence, and a passion for raising up Spirit-led children.

• A heart to connect with and build relationships with new families, children, and volunteers.

• Ability to design and maintain effective systems and structures that support a thriving, safe, and Spirit-led kids ministry.

• Comfortable giving and receiving feedback in a loving, timely, and constructive way.

• Strong communication and leadership skills—capable of leading meetings, training sessions, and speaking to both kids and adults.

• Proficient in working, or a willingness to learn, digital platforms such as Google Docs, Sheets, Planning Center, and Basecamp.

• Familiar with both Mac and PC (Mac preferred; 99% Mac environment).

• Able to work well independently while also thriving in collaborative, creative team environments.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, especially in managing logistics, communication, and classroom coordination.

• Committed to personal growth and continual development in ministry, leadership, and spiritual maturity.

• Stay up-to-date with best practices in children’s ministry and educational trends.

• Strong time management skills and the ability to balance multiple responsibilities effectively.

• Warm, enthusiastic, caring, and patient—especially when leading and ministering to children and families.

Environmental & Physical Demands

• Able to stand for long periods of time. (5+ Hours)

• Ability to work on screens for long periods of time.

• Able to move classroom chairs and tables as needed.

• Can tolerate moderate to loud noise.

Education and experience

• High School Diploma Required

• Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

• Equivalent education or ministry school training considered

• 2+ years of children’s ministry experience serving 75+ kids weekly

• Leadership skills with ability to recruit, train, and empower volunteers

Salary

$45,000 - $55,000 per year
