Examples of Work Performed
• Promote a diverse, culturally competent, and trauma-informed workplace.
• Conduct routine security rounds both inside and outside the facility to identify and address safety concerns.
• Monitor security camera systems for unusual or suspicious activity and report concerns to appropriate personnel.
• Manage front desk operations, including greeting guests, signing in visitors, and verifying access authorization.
• Ensure that only authorized individuals are permitted entry into the facility.
• Monitor facility doors and exits to ensure they remain secured according to policy, especially during overnight or restricted hours.
• Assist in de-escalating tense or disruptive situations using nonviolent communication techniques and trauma-informed practices.
• Respond to safety incidents or medical emergencies by notifying staff, following emergency protocols, and summoning appropriate support services.
• Document all incidents, visitor logs, and safety rounds in clear and timely reports.
• Collaborate with staff to maintain a secure, welcoming environment that respects the dignity and privacy of all residents.
• Support evacuation or lockdown procedures when required.
• Assist staff with conflict resolution, behavioral management, and enforcement of facility rules in a calm and professional manner.
• Participate in staff training and safety drills as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Sufficient to perform the functions of the position. May have obtained these skills through completion of a High School Diploma or equivalency.
Experience:
Experience in security, public safety, corrections, behavioral health, or homeless services is preferred. Experience working in settings serving vulnerable populations is strongly preferred.
Other:
Must be 18 years of age or older. Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Certifications/Licensure:
• Valid Driver’s License (if assigned to mobile patrol or facility requiring transport responsibilities)
• Security Guard license or certification (if required by local jurisdiction)
• Current First Aid and CPR Certification preferred or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
• De-escalation and crisis intervention training preferred

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a recuperative care facility. Tasks involve standing and walking for prolonged periods, climbing stairs, and working in both indoor and outdoor settings in varying weather conditions.
• Exposure to individuals experiencing homelessness and/or mental health, substance use, or infectious health conditions.
• May be exposed to bodily fluids, cleaning chemicals, noise, and unpleasant odors.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; may need to respond quickly to emergencies.
• Completion of a baseline individual TB risk assessment, symptom screening, and TB testing (e.g., TB skin test or TB blood test) is required upon hire.
• Care Chexx workforce members are recommended to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.
• Hepatitis B vaccination (2-dose Heplisav-B series) recommended. All persons refusing vaccination must sign a disclosure of refusal.
Internal/External Relationships:
• Regular contact with residents to support a calm, respectful environment.
• Daily interaction with Care Chexx staff to report concerns and coordinate incident response.
• Contact with visitors, service providers, and community partners to monitor access and provide basic information.
• Possible interaction with law enforcement, EMS, or crisis intervention teams in emergency situations.
