Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, including committee and agency activities, hearings, and bill/rule/guidance status changes relevant to clients’ interests.
- Compile regular reports on legislative and regulatory updates to keep the team and clients informed.
- Assist with the development and execution of legislative & regulatory strategies tailored to clients’ objectives.
- Summarize and analyze legislative & regulatory proposals, providing concise and informative briefs for the team.
- Prepare and review documents, correspondence, and other materials.
- Conduct in-depth research on legislative issues, policy trends, and relevant regulations.
- Draft written communications, including letters, powerpoint presentations, emails, client memos, and advocacy materials.
- Liaise with government officials, stakeholders, and clients to foster positive relationships.
- Assist with firm communications efforts, including proofreading materials and supporting the drafting of social media content and other messaging as directed.
- On-site administrative support as needed (receive deliveries, etc.)
- Other duties in support of the mission and clients of Caprock Strategies as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, nutrition, political science, public policy, or a related field.
- Experience via internship, coursework or professional placement in legislative affairs, government relations, or related roles is preferred.
- Strong research and analytical skills with proven attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently when necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and familiarity with legislative tracking tools.
Professional Experience and Skills:
The Policy Associate will have policy experience and an interest in agriculture, nutrition or rural issues. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, detail oriented, enjoys working in a collaborative and high-performance organization, and can communicate internally and externally in a concise and professional manner. Our team has a collaborative, collegial work style and we are looking for someone who can coordinate, prioritize and manage multiple projects at the same time.
The position is based in Northern Virginia and offers a hybrid schedule requiring at least three days per week in person.
