Canterbury Press is looking for an experienced full-time Lead Pressman to run our offset press floor. As Lead Pressman, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of our offset press equipment. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in print quality and wants ownership of the offset print process. You will work closely with the Production Manager and the rest of the operations team on day-to-day responsibilities.

Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Set up, make ready, and operate offset press equipment to produce high-quality printed work.
  • Manage ink and water balance, registration, and color throughout the run to meet customer specifications and match approved proofs.
  • Prepare, mount, and maintain plates, blankets, and rollers; perform wash-ups and changeovers efficiently between jobs.
  • Collaborate with the press helper on press operation, safety, and quality standards.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on press equipment; identify and escalate issues.
  • Identify work order errors and communicate problems to the Production Manager.
  • Monitor and control waste, spoilage, and consumable usage.
  • Rapidly change focus when needed to accommodate project changes.
  • Successfully complete assigned tasks and projects.
  • Keep the work area neat, clean, and well-organized.
  • Work overtime as necessary.
  • Comply with all safety and health policies, procedures, and practices; actively support safety improvement initiatives; use materials and equipment appropriately and safely; carry out all tasks in a manner so as not to create a hazard to themselves or others.
  • Willingness to take on duties and tasks as necessary outside of the usual offset press responsibilities (e.g., support bindery, warehousing, shipping, etc.).


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on offset press operating experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to run makereadies and hold color across a production run.
  • Ability to sit/walk/stand for up to 8+ hours per day and to intermittently squat, bend, stoop, push, and pull.
  • Complete the physical demands of the role, which may include lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Reliable and trustworthy team member.
  • Technological ability to navigate production input requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience operating a Mitsubishi 4-Color Offset press, or other comparable offset presses.
