As a Medical Assistant, your primary responsibility is to operate in tandem with a physician to guide patients through their visit and manage overall patient flow through the exam rooms. You will develop a rhythm with the physician and develop processes to ensure all information is gathered and necessary procedures are performed without duplication and in an efficient and pleasant manner for the patient.

Description

Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Greeting and rooming patients visiting the clinic; taking vitals (height, weight, blood pressure, etc), documenting patient history; recording and reporting pertinent observations and side effects or reactions to staff.
  • Drawing blood for CBC and other lab tests, run either internally or prepared for external reference lab; documenting external lab requests and ensuring follow-up on results; providing or correcting documentation to external labs for billing.  
  • Preparing, administering, and documenting injections.
  • Ordering and maintaining inventory of injectables and supplies used in exam rooms and lab; ensuring exam rooms are properly stocked.
  • Assisting physicians in medical procedures performed in office, for example bone marrow biopsies.
  • Operation as Testing Personnel in our licensed laboratory, including daily operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibration of our CBC machine (training provided).
  • Assisting in the training of other technicians or workers as appropriate.
  • Assisting with or instituting emergency measures for sudden adverse reactions or developments.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education required
  • Accredited 2-4 years college degree, training program, and/or Medical Assistant Certificate highly desirable
  • Phlebotomy training, experience, and/or certification highly desirable
  • Fluent medical Spanish a plus
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and preventative measures (HIPAA confidentiality, infection spread, etc.)
  • Exemplary customer service experience including client relationships and job knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to be empathetic with patients; ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to think critically
  • Ability to exercise manual dexterity, control precision and arm-hand steadiness accurately
  • Ability to learn quickly, incorporate knowledge, seek out the next action, maintain professionalism and safety in a complex and fast paced office 
  • Knowledge of basic specimen handling and CLIA lab processes a plus
  • Knowledge of quality control processes a plus
