Primary Responsibilities:
- Anesthesia: Induce and monitor anesthesia for surgical patients, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Dental Care: perform dental treatments as recommended by the Veterinarian following dental best practices.
- Surgical Assistance: Assist the veterinarian with surgical procedures, including preparation, instrument handling, and post-operative care.
- Patient Care: Provide comprehensive patient care, including administering medications, treatments, and monitoring vital signs.
- Examination Assistance: Assist with physical examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
- Client Communication: Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient conditions, treatment plans, and medication administration.
- Medical Records: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including patient information, procedures performed, and medications dispensed.
- Inventory Management: Assist with maintaining medical inventory, ensuring adequate supplies and proper storage.
- Shelter Animal Care: Provide medical care for shelter animals, including vaccinations, treatments, and monitoring for illness.
- Euthanasia Assistance: Assist with euthanasia procedures, providing compassionate and respectful care.
- Controlled Substance Management: Participate in CURES reporting and maintain accurate drug logs for controlled substances.
- Clinic Leadership: Works as part of the Clinic Leadership Team to ensure the goals of the clinic are being met, helping to train staff, and participating in keeping our clinic a positive place to work.
Other Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Maintain accurate, professional, and legible records in the clinic database, including data entry for controlled drugs, animal information, and procedures.
- Animal Handling: Follow established safe and humane protocols for handling animals.
- Preventative Protocols: Learn and apply preventative protocols for animal health.
- Cross-Contamination Control: Adhere to cross-contamination protocols to prevent the spread of disease.
- Medical Protocols: Follow all established medical protocols.
- Licensing: Maintain a current California RVT license.
- Safety Protocols: Follow all established safety procedures and protocols.
- Safe Work Practices: Model safe work practices and adhere to safety guidelines.
- Safety Concerns: Take immediate action to address any safety concerns.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear required clothing, identification, and job-specific safety gear.
- Disease Transmission: Demonstrate understanding of animal diseases and transmission to other animals and people.

Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older.
- Current CA RVT License in good standing
- Knowledge of animal behavior, learning theory, and the ability to apply to shelter animals
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, sit/stand for long periods of time, and possess the willingness/ability to humanely handle possibly feral cats and large (60+ lbs.), strong dogs in an effective manner.
- Computer literacy and the ability to master software as applicable to BHS operations
Working Conditions:
- The work environment can be dirty, smelly, noisy, stressful, and demanding.
- Exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals, animals, parasites, and infectious diseases is possible.
- Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals.
- Regularly lift and carry animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work can be physically and emotionally demanding.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time: Tuesday-Friday, 7:00am-6:00pm (4-day work week), can be amended based on the mutual agreement of Butte Humane Society and the RVT.
Compensation: $28-$32 hourly, DOE
