As a Tier 1 Substitute, you will provide in-school behavioral and educational support to students under BECS contracts with local school districts. Your role includes assisting with behavior plan implementation, supporting teachers and supervisors, and maintaining a safe, positive, and structured learning environment.

Job Type: Contractor | School-Based (various local school districts)

Location: Variable school locations across Washington State (see Work Locations below)


Role Overview

Tier 1 Substitutes help maintain classroom continuity and student learning when regular staff are unavailable. This position is ideal for adaptable professionals who thrive in dynamic environments and are committed to supporting students consistently. Staff may be matched directly to assignments (On-Call Substitutes) or select assignments independently (Independent Substitutes), providing short-term coverage as needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct behavioral support following established plans.
  • Monitor and respond to student behavior using positive, proactive strategies.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with teachers and supervisors.
  • Assist with classroom routines, supervision, and daily activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Document incidents, progress, and student outcomes accurately and promptly.
  • Adapt quickly to varying assignments, grade levels, and classroom environments.

Requirements for All BECS Roles

  • High school diploma or equivalent (degrees/credentials required for specialized positions).
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass federal fingerprinting background check.
  • Reliable transportation (personal vehicle required; not public transit).
  • Three professional references verifying attendance and reliability.
  • Active credentials/certifications for specialized positions as required.
  • Crisis intervention certification (CPI, Right Response, Safety Care) is highly desirable.

Work Locations

Please note: The term “remote” refers to variable work locations across multiple counties rather than a work-from-home position. Specific cities and worksites are determined during the interview and placement process. Our services currently extend throughout the greater Puget Sound region, including Pierce, King, Snohomish, Skagit, Thurston, Lewis, Chelan, and Douglas Counties.
