About Building Beats

Building Beats is a nonprofit music education organization that empowers youth through music, technology, and creative media. Founded in the Bronx in 2013, Building Beats provides hands-on programs in DJing, music production, podcasting, and digital media across schools and community spaces in New York City and Los Angeles. Serving over 12,000 young people to date, the organization helps students build creative, technical, and workforce-ready skills while creating pathways to internships, mentorship, and careers in the creative industries.

Join Building Beats as a Volunteer and help support the creative passions of NYC youth through programs in Music Production, DJing, Music Coding, Podcasting, Music Journalism, and Songwriting. This is an unpaid role that plays an important part in the success of our workshops, events, and community outreach efforts.


Responsibilities


  • Assist with the organization and facilitation of workshops and community events.
  • Support event logistics, including equipment setup and breakdown.
  • Help promote programs through social media and community outreach initiatives.
  • Mentor participants by providing guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback on creative projects and skill development.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all participants.


Qualifications


  • Experience in education, youth development, non-profit settings, or community organizing is preferred
  • A strong commitment to promoting equitable access to creative technology and career pathways for underserved youth
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and individuals, demonstrating compassion and cultural sensitivity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable functioning independently and with distributed teams
