Duties & Responsibilities :
Provide direct oral health screenings recording the presence of diseases or abnormalities:
- Completes patient screening procedures; such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting, and taking blood pressure and pulse;
- Takes radiographs (x-rays);
- Removes calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth;
- Applies preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides);
Promotes oral health education and literacy:
- Teaches patients and their families about appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling);
- Completes impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs); and
- Performs documentation and office management activities.
Schedules and coordinates referrals for restorative and specialty care when needed.
Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

- Conforms to all HIPAA standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
- Follows established infection control and safety procedures
Job Requirements:
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Dental Hygiene.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration Required:
- A registered dental hygienist who has satisfied all conditions of licensure in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and maintains a current license to practice.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, working knowledge of word processing and database management, and the ability to collect, organize and analyze data.
