Description

About the Role

Brenner LLP is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Billing Manager to join our firm. This role is responsible for managing client billing, sending invoices and statements, supporting collection activity, maintaining recurring billing processes, and preparing billing reports for management.

This is a full-time role for someone who enjoys working with financial details, improving processes, and helping create clarity around client billing. The right person will be organized, accurate, and thoughtful, with the ability to follow established billing parameters while also recognizing when something needs additional review.

The Billing Manager will work closely with firm leadership and client service teams to ensure billing is timely, accurate, and aligned with the work being performed. This role will also partner with the team member who oversees A/R to support accurate business books and effective client account follow-up.

As part of the Support Services department, this role will also share in regular team coverage responsibilities. Billing management will remain the primary focus, but the person in this role should expect to assist with Support Services coverage as part of the normal team structure.

Over time, this position may grow into a broader billing operations role, helping the firm monitor recurring engagements, review WIP and client project budgets, identify scope or budget concerns, and improve systems around engagement tracking and billing visibility.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and send client invoices in accordance with firm billing guidelines.
  • Manage recurring billing for ongoing client engagements.
  • Review billing details for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Send client statements and initiate routine collection follow-up within established parameters.
  • Partner with A/R oversight to help maintain accurate client account information.
  • Prepare regular billing reports for management.
  • Track billing exceptions, outstanding items, and follow-up needs.
  • Work with partners, managers, and administrative team members to resolve billing questions.
  • Help confirm that client engagements and billing arrangements are aligned with the work being performed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve billing processes, documentation, reporting, and system accuracy.
  • Support leadership with longer-term visibility into WIP, budget concerns, and client billing trends.
  • Share in regular Support Services coverage as needed, including answering phones, assisting with document routing, preparing client pickup or delivery items, and helping with return assembly. Billing responsibilities remain the priority, and this role will generally serve as later-tier coverage for administrative support.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who brings strong billing, accounting operations, or A/R experience and who is comfortable working in a professional services environment. The ideal candidate is not just a processor, but a critical thinker who can identify inconsistencies, ask good questions, and help improve how work gets done.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Experience with billing, accounts receivable, accounting operations, or financial administration.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Experience preparing invoices, statements, reports, or client account summaries.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring deadlines.
  • Professional communication skills and sound judgment.
  • Comfort working with confidential client and firm information.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with leadership and client service teams.
  • A practical, process-minded approach to improving workflows, with strong analytical skills.
  • Comfort participating in regular shared Support Services responsibilities while keeping billing management as the primary area of ownership.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Prior experience in a CPA firm, law firm, consulting firm, or other professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with time-and-billing, WIP, recurring engagements, project budgets, realization, or client retainers.
  • Experience supporting A/R, collection follow-up, payment reconciliation, or account cleanup.
  • Experience helping document or improve billing procedures and internal systems.
  • Experience in a client-focused professional services environment.
