Title: Wellness & Nutrition Coordinator

Reports To: Clubhouse Director
FLAS Status: Non-Exempt, 25 hours / week
Compensation: $17.00-$20.00 per hour
Primary Function:
The Wellness & Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the kitchen while leading nutrition and health education initiatives at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County. This role ensures that meals are prepared and served efficiently, groceries are ordered and stocked, and the kitchen environment is maintained to high standards of cleanliness and safety. The coordinator also develops and implements engaging wellness programming to promote healthy eating, physical activity, and lifelong wellness habits among youth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meal Preparation and Service: Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals and snacks for Club members, incorporating healthy ingredients and adhering to dietary and safety standards.
- Grocery Management: Order and manage inventory of groceries and kitchen supplies, ensuring healthy food options and adherence to budget.
- Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment, ensuring all equipment and storage areas meet health codes.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations and sanitation standards.
- Health & Wellness Promotion: Incorporate health education, wellness tips, and nutrition messaging into mealtime and Club programming.
- Team Collaboration: Coordinate with Club staff to align wellness programs with broader youth development goals and support Club events.
- Culinary and Wellness Programs: Develop and lead safe, engaging culinary and wellness activities, such as cooking classes and demonstrations, fitness challenges, and healthy habits workshops.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of inventory, meals served, expenses, and wellness program participation.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Partner with local health organizations, food programs, and community stakeholders to bring wellness resources and guest educators to the Club.
- Support grant applications and reporting related to nutrition and wellness initiatives.
- Submit and track requests for kitchen and wellness-related supplies and expenses.
- Participate in special events, including family nights and community health fairs.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
- Experience in food preparation, nutrition education, or public health programming.
- Knowledge of food safety, dietary guidelines, and youth wellness best practices.
- Ability to plan and lead safe, engaging, age-appropriate wellness activities.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with youth, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Commitment to creating a healthy, inclusive, and positive environment for youth.
