About the Role
Program Volunteers help create a positive, engaging, and safe environment for young people at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County. Volunteers work alongside trained staff to support daily activities, build relationships with youth, and contribute to a welcoming Club experience. This role is ideal for adults who enjoy working with children and teens and want to make a meaningful impact in their community.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive, supportive connections with youth ages 6–18
- Assist staff with daily programs, activities, and enrichment projects
- Offer general homework help and encouragement during academic time
- Model and reinforce positive behavior using Club‑approved strategies
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
- Support transitions, free play, and structured activities
- Collaborate with Club staff to maintain consistent routines and expectations
- Follow all safety policies, emergency procedures, and youth‑protection guidelines
- Participate in required volunteer orientation and training
Skills & Qualities We’re Looking For
- Enthusiasm for working with children and teens
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to help where needed
- Ability to stay calm, flexible, and positive in a lively environment
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth voice
- Interest in supporting youth programs and contributing to a team
Requirements
- Must be 18 or older
- Completion of volunteer onboarding steps, including reference checks and safety training
- Ability to actively engage with youth indoors and outdoors
- Consistent availability during agreed‑upon volunteer hours
