Through after-school and camp programming, Boys & Girls Clubs meet young people where they are to support social-emotional development, physical and mental wellness, and academic success.


As a leading youth services organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of East Alabama relies on caring, motivated staff to deliver high-quality programs. Youth Development Professionals (Mentors) serve as positive role models and are responsible for creating safe, engaging, and structured experiences for members.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and lead structured activities within assigned program areas
  • Support priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship
  • Supervise youth to ensure safety, positive behavior, and engagement
  • Serve as a positive role model and build meaningful relationships with members
  • Maintain attendance and participate in daily program routines
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of program spaces
  • Support special events, enrichment activities, and field trips as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of program and organizational needs


Program Areas May Include

  • Athletics (fitness, team sports, non-traditional sports)
  • Gamesroom / Social Recreation
  • Arts (visual, digital, cultural, and performing arts)
  • STEM (coding, robotics, engineering, science, digital media)


Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred
  • Experience working with youth, particularly in after-school, camp, or community-based settings
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage group behavior and maintain a safe, respectful environment
  • Interest or experience in at least one program area
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid State Driver’s License preferred


Schedule

  • Seasonal Part-Time Position
  • Employment includes required onboarding and training prior to the start of Summer Camp
  • Followed by seven (7) weeks of Summer Camp employment
  • Approximately 25–30 hours per week during Summer Camp
  • Monday–Friday between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM (schedule will vary based on program needs)
  • This position is scheduled to conclude July 31, unless otherwise extended or converted to regular part-time based on organizational needs and performance


Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work occurs in both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, and active participation in programming


Background, Safety & Training Requirements

All candidates must successfully pass a criminal background check upon hire and annually thereafter, submit a Child Abuse & Neglect (CAN) Form, and comply with all Boys & Girls Clubs of America training, screening, and hiring requirements.
