The Physical Therapist is responsible for evaluating and treating patients with neurological disorders and injuries to improve their physical function and quality of life. This role involves developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, utilizing specialized techniques and equipment, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Patient Assessment
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.
  • Use standardized assessment tools to evaluate motor function, balance, coordination, strength, and mobility.
  1. Treatment Planning
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, patient goals, and evidence-based practices.
  • Set realistic and measurable goals to improve patients' physical function and quality of life.
  1. Therapeutic Interventions
  • Implement therapeutic interventions, including gait training, balance exercises, functional mobility training, strength training, and neuromuscular re-education.
  • Employ assistive devices and adaptive equipment as needed to enhance patient mobility and independence.
  1. Patient Education
  • Educate patients and their families about their condition, treatment plan, and strategies to manage symptoms and improve function.
  • Provide home exercise programs and training on the use of assistive devices.
  1. Collaboration and Consultation
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and case conferences to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  1. Documentation and Record-Keeping
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including assessment results, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and professional standards.
  1. Professional Development
  • Stay current with developments in neurological rehabilitation and physical therapy through continuing education, professional development, and research.
  • Participate in research projects and contribute to the advancement of the field of neurological  physical therapy.

Qualifications

  1. Education
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited institution (preferred).
  • Completion of a clinical residency or fellowship in neurological rehabilitation is preferred.
  1. Licensure and Certification
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of practice.
  • Board certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy (NCS) is preferred.
  1. Experience
  • Experience working with patients with neurological conditions in a clinical setting.
  • Specialized training or experience in neurological rehabilitation techniques and approaches.
  1. Skills
  • Strong knowledge of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neurological plasticity.
  • Excellent clinical skills in assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of Boston Brain Center multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Working Conditions

  • Environment: Work is typically performed in a clinical setting, which may include outpatient rehabilitation center, or specialized neurological rehabilitation facilities.
  • Hours: Full-time / part-time position with standard office hours, but may include evenings and weekends depending on patient needs and clinic hours.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and positioning patients, demonstrating exercises, and using therapeutic equipment. Good physical stamina and manual dexterity are essential.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is a part-time position with the possibility of becoming into a full-time position.

$60 - $85 per hour
