Intensive Services Division Associate Mental Health Therapist (Part-time to Full-Time) Job Description

Work Location: Hermosa Beach, CA/Torrance, CA

  • (1 position) Intensive Service Division adolescents/TAY/Adults associate clinical mental health therapist


Blue Chair Family Therapy (private practice setting) is hiring multiple positions for associate clinical mental health therapist to aid and expand the therapeutic team! Your position is vital to help the team become more efficient and grow our company. Blue Chair Family Therapy is a Southern California-based, woman and minority owned company committed to providing the best mental health care to our South Bay, Los Angeles, and California clients. Blue Chair Family Therapy is the only mental health company that treats children and adolescents in dissociative disorders with evidence-based practices in EMDR, BSP, and Play Therapy practices. We also strive to provide care to children, teens, adults, couples, and families needing to bring everlasting healing to their lives. Blue Chair Family Therapy team provides a “therapeutic concierge” approach, by serving the whole family and allowing for healing to occur within the family system. We provide individual counseling, process groups, and couples therapy.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree required in Clinical Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling, or Social Work
  • Registered as an Associate LMFT, LCSW, LPCC or Psychologist and current, unrestricted registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • One or more years of previous experience working with the following:
  • EMDR trained or within 90 days of hired (training provided by playfulemdr.com can be paid via company)
  • BSP trained or within 90 days of hired  (training can be paid via company)
  • Preferred DBT trained 
  • Preferred play therapy and sandtray experience (ongoing training will be provided)
  • Preferred Dissociation Training (ongoing training will be provided)
  • Preferred Substance Abuse Experience/Training (ongoing training will be provided)
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Experience providing mental health services requiring diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning, case management skills and crisis intervention, as well as providing the various modalities of therapy
  • Must be able to document in a clear and concise manner in accordance with program standards
  • Experience using an electronic Health System (EHS), (preferred Simple Practice)
  • Use of SOAP notes, MHS notes, and other forms.
  • Experience, training, and/or strong interest in working with clients presenting with symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, disruptive behavior, substance-abuse, etc.
  • Population served: School-aged children ages 4 to 12, and adolescents, young adults, families, and groups, with an emphasis on BIPOC clients, faith-based clients (Christian, Catholic, Spiritual) and LGBTQIAS2+ clients.
  • Provide valid California Driver’s license and professional registered license to Blue Chair Family Therapy. Therapists may have to drive clients if needed.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide evidence-based interventions and evidence-based practices
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to the clients of Blue Chair Family Therapy, APC Intensive Outpatient Program
  • Provides validation in a warm, safe environment and keeps clients motivated to work through distress and eliminate neutralizing behaviors. Engages with clients through clinical interactions, interventions and development of skills
  • Facilitate group, individual, and family therapy
  • Assess the counseling needs of the client and refer out to higher level of care and/or other services where appropriate
  • Assess clients for substance abuse, trauma, and suicidality, homocidality, and utilize best practices in treatment
  • Develop treatment plans and implement appropriate counseling interventions 
  • Maintain clients’ records related to assessment, treatment, progress toward goals and objectives, and treatment outcomes that are accurate, concise, timely, and useful for coordinating treatment team planning, monitoring, and review.
  • Develop the client discharge/continuum of care plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care
  • Document in the EHR all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals, and follow-up in the client’s clinical record within 48 hours of service
  • Document coordination of support services for the client/family in the client’s clinical record and treatment plan
  • Contact and coordinate with referral sources and support services (i.e. legal, school, employer, etc.)
  • Review obtained records from previous treatment that are relevant to the current treatment episode
  • Manage crises and high-risk events following procedure and utilizing appropriate clinical interventions 
  • Maintain positive therapeutic rapport with client
  • Utilize a multi-disciplinary team approach for the care and treatment of assigned clients
  • Work collaboratively with clients and the clinical team to develop a comprehensive assessment, treatment plan and desired treatment outcomes


Job Requirements:

  • Maintains a minimum of 10-20 hours of billable time per week (part-time); this position can become full-time (w/health benefits, etc.)
  • Participate in treatment team meetings (TBD), group supervision (TBD), Staff Meetings Tuesdays 12pm-1pm, and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Availability: 2-3 days in-person (7 days available) and 1-2 day virtual of choice 
  • Seek guidance and remain knowledgeable of and comply with all applicable federal and state laws, as well as company policies that apply to assigned duties
  • Follow the company’s and Board of Behavioral Sciences’ (BBS) expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct
  • Follow all Blue Chair Family Therapy and professional guidelines (AAMFT, CAMFT, NASW, APA)


Physical Demands:

Must be able to remain in a stationary (stand/sit) position at least 50% of the time. This person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer. Frequently communicate with staff, clients, families and other community organizations and must be able to exchange accurate information. You will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions when out in the community.

Compensation, Benefits and Work Schedule:

Job Type: Part-time to full time/flexible schedule

Hourly: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour (depends on training-experience)

  • Therapists will have access to a clinical coordinator, clinical supervisor, and clinical director for support.
  • Therapists will receive referrals from clinical coordinator and director
  • Therapists will be expected to have 5 clients the first month of employment, 10-15 clients the second month, 15-20 clients the third month (based on schedule)
