About This Role:

The Communications Manager will work closely with Black Visions’s Director of Communications to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive communications strategy for the organization. The Communications Manager will be especially focused on the day-to-day direct implementation of that strategy, with an emphasis on digital media. Informed by data, the Communications Manager will optimize our digital presence. 


The ideal candidate for this role will be able to work creatively, independently, collaboratively, and with flexibility. They know how to authentically engage key audiences and are willing to be innovative in their approach. The candidate is excited about serving the Black Visions mission and is based in Minnesota.


CORE JOB DUTIES


Communications Management

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate communications strategies and digital security protocols to maintain favorable public perceptions of Black Visions in collaboration with the Director of Communications and our programs team
  • Create attention-grabbing materials that provide information and/or promote our work
  • Create and manage digital organizing campaigns
  • Manage the organization’s website and social media platforms
  • Work with DOC and other departments to create a quarterly newsletter
  • Provide training for other members of the organization to enhance their own effectiveness in communications, such as public speaking
  • Write press releases or other media communications


Data Analytics 

  • Optimize digital presence for search engine optimization and display on internet-connected devices
  • Monitor and analyze metrics (such as number of views, conversion rates, or traffic mix) to inform our communications strategy and to ensure return on investment


Outreach & Partner Stewardship

  • Foster relationships online and prepare people to mobilize through digital tools
  • Represent Black Visions accurately and positively to the public
  • Establish or maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of community, external partners, and other stakeholders
  • Support coordination of promotional activities


Teamwork and Collaboration (shared with all other staff members)

  • Contribute to regular meetings as an active participant or facilitator
  • Practice timely, honest, and proactive communication
  • Foster constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
  • Stay grounded in Black Vision’s shared values and the praxis of Black Queer Feminism
  • Be willing to learn, be vulnerable, and be transformed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Believe in the mission, vision, and core values underpinning our work
  • Have an authentic love for Black people 
  • Desire to be in principled struggle
  • Have at least 3 years of experience working with social/digital media
  • Has demonstrated ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed 


OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE


  • Has exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills as well as knowledge of media production and dissemination techniques
  • Is familiar with various social media platforms as well as Squarespace for website design
  • Has exceptional project management skills, including an ability to manage multiple projects and pivot when needed
  • Has interest or background in photography
  • Enjoys researching various topics
  • Has a keen interest in social justice politics 
  • Has a background in digital or narrative organizing
  • Is interested in conflict resolution and transformative justice


SALARY


$68,880 per year as a full-time salary for roughly 32 hours per week.

A cost of living adjustment is enacted once every year equal to the rate of inflation or higher.

LOCATION REQUIREMENTS


The Communications Manager must live in Minnesota and be able to regularly commute to our office in Minneapolis.
