The National Black Leadership Commission on Health is seeking a Youth Coordinator who will assist in the management of all core youth programming (Youth Initiative Program, Youth Peer Advocacy Program) for the teens’ population. Under the supervision of the Sr. Program Coordinator, works to meet the objectives by providing outreach and sexual health education and outreach to teens in NYC. The Youth Coordinator will assist with the youth program development, and community development as well as the creation of recruitment and retention plans for youth. WHAT YOU DO


  • Conduct internal and external outreach to recruit YIP participants from targeted NYC communities for PEER training programs and other Black Health programs.
  • Identify partners who can facilitate career readiness, financial literacy workshops, mental health, nutrition for YIP participants and connect YIP participants to appropriate career and education programs at The Door or externally depending on the young person’s goals and needs.
  • Manage  program operations and services  including orientation, intake, service delivery,  data tracking, and assessment for new YIP participants. 
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary staff in cross-departmental efforts to increase services to specific youth populations and provide appropriate support. 
  • Provide comprehensive, age appropriate, sexuality health education for adolescents (13 - 19). and strategies for young people to make healthy decisions and set goals for the future.
  • Provides individual counseling services (sexual decision-making, growth and development, pregnancy prevention, STI's and HIV pre and post-test counseling) to youth in CA program sites (community schools and youth centers), and other school and community-based settings.
  • Maintains up-to-date awareness of and compliance with all necessary laws and compliance policies associated with working with minors and managing health information. 


WHAT YOU NEED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, or related field preferred 
  • Two years of experience in youth development, preferably health education and/or youth development programs required
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people
  • Knowledge of relevant compliance and legal policies such as HIPAA
  • Prior experience in a social service setting working with a multicultural young adult population
  • Prior experience in working with a vulnerable youth population (foster care, court involved, runaway and homeless or teen parent, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practice of the principles of positive youth development.
  • Experience with performance-based contracts.
  • Ability to create and facilitate workshops and trainings
  • Ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and function as part of a team to promote successful outcomes for youth
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and multitask while adhering to deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; strong computer skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred


BENEFITS

The salary for this position is within the range of $50,000 - $55,000 per year.


Black Health offers accrual of up to 4 weeks per year PTO, 7 sick days. Seventy percent of employer-provided coverage for medical benefits, not including dental and vision. ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This is a full-time exempt position based in New York, NY. Some travel will be required. Candidates must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position. Relocation is not available for this role. Unfortunately, we cannot offer sponsorship at this time.
