Job Title: Preschool Teacher
Program: Early Childhood
Reports to: Academic Director
Employment Status: Full-time; Exempt
Report to Work Dates:. All days that the program is in session, 11 months of each year (consisting of all months of the School Year and eight weeks of Summer Camp). Work day hours are 10am-6pm during the School Year (30 hours/week) and 9am-5pm (40 hours/week) during Summer Camp, subject to change depending on program needs and enrollment.
Background:
Founded in 1970, Bixby School is a small independent school serving approximately 110 students from preschool through 5th grade. Some of the defining characteristics of a Bixby education include small classes of students who demonstrate a wide range of individual needs and strengths, and a strong focus on the social-emotional growth, independence, and creativity of students. Our students’ days are richly balanced with academics, play, movement, music, art, and sports. Position Summary: A Core Belief of Bixby School is that “committed, well-qualified teachers are fundamental to the success of our school.” As a Bixby School teacher, you will nurture students’ cognitive, academic, social and emotional growth and development in a manner that reflects Bixby’s mission to: “nurtures children’s love of learning as they discover their individual gifts and prepare to make meaningful contributions to their world.”
- Daily
- As a co-teacher in a mixed-age classroom, provide opportunities for children to learn through play, actively and imaginatively engage with others, and create spaces for children to explore and construct meaning in the world around them
- Design and deliver preschool curriculum, including preparation of all instructional materials and resources needed to effectively execute instructional plans
- Maintain a patient, creative, and student-centered classroom environment
- Work collaboratively with other professionals in planning instruction to meet students’ needs and “fuel the embers” of individual student strengths
- Differentiate instruction and the classroom environment to implement accommodations and extensions
- Support students’ social-emotional and academic development
- Maintain compliance with all applicable licensing regulations within the classroom at all times

- Employee shall be expected to report to work on all of the days during which the program in which the Employee is employed is in operation, as indicated on the school calendar, a copy of which has been delivered to the Employee.
- Weekly:
- Contribute to parent communications through newsletters, Bixby Buzz, Brightwheel, and others
- Student supervision, including lunch, Yard supervision, etc.
- Periodically/As Needed:
- Document student growth and performance using authentic, mission-aligned evidence (e.g. student work, photos/videos, student reflections, observations, etc.)
- Maintain and update at least monthly, comprehensive student portfolios consisting of a curated collection of each student’s work—such as writing samples, projects, artwork, and photos—gathered over time to showcase their social, emotional and academic learning journey, growth, and accomplishments over the course of the academic year
- At least monthly, update classroom set-up to address developmental domains as required by Colorado Early Childhood Standards
- Respond to parent inquiries and participate in parent conferences
- Promptly document any student concerns, including academic, behavioral, physical, emotional or social; and notify the Academic Director or other appropriate school administrator
- Promptly document and report any suspected student neglect or abuse in accordance with Colorado Mandatory Reporter laws
- Maintain a clean, organized, and aesthetically "Bixby-aligned" learning environment that meets applicable health and safety standards
- Ensure all behavioral or medical incidents are promptly documented via Brightwheel and communicated to leadership and parents as soon as practical but no later than within 4 hours or the end of the school day, whichever occurs first.
- Maintain current knowledge of topics relevant to your classroom
- Participate in all-staff meetings and professional development/in-service activities
- Annually:
- Prepare for and participate in school-wide events such as Spring Sing Along, Auction, Early Childhood Art Show, and other community events according to the employee handbook
- Prepare for and participate in school-wide events such as assemblies, events, performances, work days, faculty in-service days, and retreats, as appropriate for the preschool program
- Contribute to student assessments and reports (Fall and Spring Reports, etc.)
- Lead and support parent home visits and conferences
- Support activities related to fundraising and community building, such as Family Hike, Annual Auction, and other community events, according to the employee handbook
- Renew yourself and deepen your understanding of the Bixby School curriculum, behaviors, and mindsets, child development, diversity, and enrollment retention through continued education and professional development
- Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field, or equivalent experience
- Certified Early Childhood Teacher by the state of Colorado
- Experience working with student populations with diverse gifts and support needs
- Current First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions, and Medication Administration certification
- Enjoys spending time and engaging with young children and other educators
- Committed to personal and professional growth

Physical Requirements:
- Able to continuously walk, stand, climb stairs, and sit
- Frequent bending or stooping, and reaching above shoulder level

Compensation
This position is a full-time, exempt position. Minimum starting annual salary $40,000-$50,000 depending upon qualifications.
