Bixby School Kindergarten/5th Grade Spanish Teacher Boulder, CO · Part time

Bixby School is currently seeking a Spanish teacher to deliver in person instruction to students in Kindergarten and 5th grades. This position is part-time (15-20 hours per week) during the academic year. The teacher will partner with Ms. Fiorella Swanson, Spanish teacher for Grades 1 through 4, to deliver Bixby’s Spanish curriculum. Bixby’s Spanish language program introduces students to the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries through stories, play and meaningful language. Conversational Spanish is introduced to younger students through pictures, songs and games; some writing and reading is introduced in 4th and 5th grades. Students participate in two to three 45-minute classes each week. Each class has approximately 10 students. The ideal candidate is energetic and creative with a driving desire to know and inspire each student.

Description

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Daily: 
  • Report to school on all days of the week when the Spanish program is delivered
  • Deliver curriculum, including preparation of all instructional materials and resources needed to effectively execute instructional plans
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals in planning instruction to meet students’ needs and “fuel the embers” of individual student strengths 
  • Support students’ social-emotional and academic development
  • Support the mission and core beliefs of Bixby School
  • Model Bixby’s values of Respect, Responsibility and Empathy 
  • Build effective relationships with teachers, students, colleagues, and families 
  • Employee shall be expected to report to work on all of the days during which the program in which the Employee is employed is in operation, as indicated on the school calendar, a copy of which has been delivered to the Employee.  
  • Weekly: 
  • Participate in  faculty meetings
  • Student supervision, including lunch, Yard supervision, etc.
  • (At least) Monthly: Communicate with families about the lessons and activities in your classroom (e.g. newsletter - Bixby Buzz, SeeSaw, etc.)

  • Periodically/As Needed
  • Document student growth and performance using authentic, mission aligned evidence (e.g. student work, photos/videos, student  reflections, observations, etc.)
  • Respond to parent inquiries and participate in parent conferences
  • Promptly document any student concerns, including academic, behavioral, physical, emotional or social; and notify the Head of School or other appropriate school administrator 
  • Maintain current knowledge of topics relevant to your classroom
  • Participate in all-staff meetings and professional development/in-service activities
  • Annually: 
  • Prepare for and participate in school-wide events such as Meet and Greets, Back to School Night, etc.
  • Contribute to student assessments (Student Reports, Portfolios, End of Year Reports, etc.)
  • Support activities related to fundraising and community building
  • Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time


Requirements: 

  • Experience working with elementary age students with diverse needs and talents
  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, elementary education or related field highly desirable but not required
  • Experience using Total Physical Response methodology is desirable but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills
  • Enjoys spending time and engaging with children and other educators 
  • Native Spanish speaker highly preferred
  • Demonstrated written and verbal proficiency in Spanish
  • Demonstrated written and verbal proficiency in English
  • Knowledge of and practical experience with Google Classroom and Seesaw highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Google suite and FACTS, or able to become so within 30 days.

Salary

$24 - $30 per hour
