Bixby’s Spanish language program introduces students to the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries through stories, play and meaningful language. Conversational Spanish is introduced to younger students through pictures, songs and games; some writing and reading is introduced in 4th and 5th grades. Students participate in two (2) 45-minute classes each week. Each class has approximately 5-10 students.

Report to Work Dates: All days that program is in session

Established in 1970, Bixby School is a small independent school serving around 120 students from preschool through 5th grade. Position Summary:

As a Spanish teacher, you will be responsible for nurturing students' cognitive, academic, social, and emotional growth in alignment with Bixby's mission to foster a love of learning and prepare students to contribute meaningfully to the world.


Our Spanish language program introduces students to the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries through engaging activities such as stories, play, and interactive language learning. As the Spanish teacher, you will lead two 45-minute classes per week for students in kindergarten through 5th grade, with class sizes ranging from 5-10 students.


Job Responsibilities:

Daily:

- Develop and implement curriculum, including preparing instructional materials and resources

- Collaborate with colleagues to plan instruction that meets students' diverse needs and strengths

- Provide differentiated instruction to accommodate and extend student learning

- Offer constructive feedback to students to support their growth and development

- Support students' social-emotional development through Bixby's curriculum and individualized feedback

- Model and uphold Bixby's values of Respect, Responsibility, and Empathy


Weekly:

- Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to discussions

- Communicate with families about classroom lessons and activities

- Document student progress using authentic evidence aligned with Bixby's mission


Periodically/As Needed:

- Respond to family inquiries and conduct parent conferences

- Address any student concerns promptly and communicate with school administrators as needed

- Stay informed about relevant topics in education and participate in professional development activities


Annually:

- Contribute to student assessments and reports

- Support fundraising and community-building events

- Engage in ongoing professional development to deepen your understanding of Bixby's curriculum and values


Requirements:

- Embrace Bixby's core beliefs and shared behaviors

- Experience working with elementary students with diverse needs

- Bachelor's degree in Spanish, elementary education, or related field preferred

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in Spanish and English

- Proficiency in Google Suite and familiarity with Zoom and Seesaw

Compensation:
