Bethany Lutheran Church Director of Youth Ministry Austin, TX · Full time

The Director of Youth Ministry is to be a highly relational leader that connects families and their students (6th-12th grade) to Jesus and integrates, supports and contributes to the mission, vision and values of Bethany.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Family Life and the Director of Children's Ministry to provide support and guidance to families in their spiritual growth and foster a sense of community.
  • Assist in creating and managing a schedule of events, activities, and opportunities for youth and their families, working closely with the Director of Family Life and the Director of Children's Ministry.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor leaders to serve in various roles within the youth ministry.
  • Develop strategies to enhance and support youth and their families during their Sunday morning experiences.
  • Work with the Director of Family Life to engage and involve students and families from outside of Bethany in the worship community.
  • Lead and coordinate Bethany's annual Vacation Bible School program.
  • Lead and coordinate Bethany's annual summer program: Camp Bethany.
  • Collaborate with the worship staff to incorporate youth and their families into worship services.
  • Provide care and support to youth and their families during times of need.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Family Life in budget discussions to align with ministry goals.
  • Plan and execute fundraising initiatives to support the expenses of the youth ministry.
  • Participate in staff and family ministry team meetings for coaching, collaboration, and goal setting.

Education, Experience & Skillset

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree
  • Required: Experience working/volunteering in a church environment with youth. Experience in an LCMS church preferred.
  • Ability to build trust and motivate others to take action.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to remain professional under pressure.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to pursue ongoing education in relevant areas.

Salary for this position is based on experience and qualifications.
