Position: Bus Driver
Location: Berkeley County, SC
Employment Type: Temporary/Contract, Non-Exempt
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a bus over approved routes in accordance with state laws and regulations.
- Maintain discipline among students being transported and report any misconduct to transportation administrators.
- Ensure cleanliness of the bus and report any damages or equipment failures.
- Assist in scheduling bus stops and planning routes.
- Provide written reports of road hazards on assigned routes.
- Monitor students during boarding and departing the bus.
- Maintain accurate student rosters and seating charts.
- Attend safety meetings and required in-services.
- Keep up-to-date daily records on mileage.
- Administer general first aid when necessary.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid CDL license.
- Successful completion of school bus driver training and certification by the South Carolina Department of Education.
- Good driving record (no more than 4 points against the license).
- Must pass Physical Performance Test, drug test, and criminal background checks.
Skills/Effort:
- Effective communication skills with school administrators and parents.
- Ability to operate wheelchair lift.
- Aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
Working Conditions:
- Work primarily outdoors with moderate exposure to environmental/weather conditions.
- Occasional lifting or movement of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Roles may involve stress associated with tasks requiring attention and meeting deadlines.
- Smoke-free.
