Pay rate: $25/hr

Schedule: 10 hours per week

As Berkeley Muslim Life officially begins conducting programming and services for the community in the 2026-2027 academic year, we want to share our journey with all of our supporters across various digital channels. This is where our intern comes in! 


About the Role

The Digital Media & Communications Intern will work closely with the Director of Muslim Life in crafting Berkeley Muslim Life’s digital presence and narrative. They will be responsible for the design, management and production of creative materials from posts regarding upcoming events to mini videos documenting our programming. In capturing the story of Berkeley Muslim Life, this position will play a critical role in helping students, faculty and staff, alumni, and community members all understand our mission, what we offer and how they can engage. 


We seek candidates who are passionate about content creation, communications and are excited to convey Berkeley Muslim Life’s journey to our supporters. They’re comfortable jumping into team brainstorming sessions and pitching ideas as well as executing on proposed strategies. They’re also self-starters who are able to proactively initiate and manage their own projects. Above all, we’d love for this person to be excited about our mission and core values: spiritual striving, collective care, and advancing societal wellbeing. 


This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who would like to develop a communications portfolio, gain professional mentorship and make a tangible impact upon fellow students and community members at a mission-driven organization. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Design digital assets (graphics, flyers, photos, videos) for our social media platforms, newsletter, and website
  • Draft and edit monthly newsletter content, including program updates, stories, announcements, and highlights from our community 
  • Capture photo and video content at organizational programs, events, and community activities
  • Develop and maintain a content calendar for social media and other digital communications
  • Contribute new ideas for strengthening our digital presence
  • Monitor analytics/insights to improve communication strategies
  • Edit videos and other long-form content to be circulated across our channels
  • Maintain website content, announcements, calendars, and resources


What we’re looking for

We’d love to meet someone who is: 

  • Creative and visually minded, with an interest in digital content creation and storytelling
  • A strong written communicator who writes in a clear and engaging manner
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple small projects and deadlines
  • Self-driven and proactive, with a willingness to take initiative and independently make decisions
  • Familiar with graphic design tools e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Well-versed in using various media platforms e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube
  • Deeply invested in community-building and having an impact on local communities
  • Excited to learn and grow, accepting that mistakes may be made along the way and that it’s all part of the journey 


Compensation & Schedule

This is a 10-hour-per-week position paying $25/hr. We’ll work to establish a schedule that fits our candidate’s other commitments. Some flexibility to attend programs or events for photography/video coverage is helpful. 


The anticipated start date is early October and the position is expected to continue through December 18.
