Position Overview

The Construction Superintendent leads future homebuyers and volunteers in performing in-house construction activities, including site preparation, foundation systems, rough framing, window and door installation, weatherproofing, siding, painting, flooring installation, millwork installation, interior painting, and landscaping. This position will interact with Habitat staff, volunteers, homebuyers, subcontractors, Habitat partners and City inspectors. This position partners closely with the Project Management team to suggest potential helpful building practices and material cost savings. The Construction Superintendent is a leadership role and will model and uphold the values of Bend Redmond Habitat for Humanity to peers, volunteers, subcontractors, homeowners, and community members.

 

CORE DUTIES:

  • Support the Bend Redmond Habitat for Humanity mission of building homes, communities, and hope.
  • Lead volunteers, AmeriCorps team members and homeowners in building activities. Provide training for construction tasks and proper safety measures.
  • Always ensure proper safety practices.
  • Conduct regular quality control inspections.
  • Partner with the Volunteer Coordinator, giving and receiving feedback to ensure a safe, positive experience with Bend Redmond Habitat for Humanity. Understand elements that contribute to successful volunteers and help ensure that volunteers have a consistently positive, encouraging environment, motivating them to return.
  • Ensure that communication with volunteers and partner homeowners is respectful, correct, and prompt.
  • Ensure safety practices are followed and inventory counts on site are accurate.
  • Help in identifying volunteer jobs/needs not currently filled and partner with Volunteer Coordinator to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Perform all hands-on construction tasks as directed.
  • Repair/redo any construction task performed below acceptable standards by volunteers.
  • Suggest potential helpful building practices and material cost savings opportunities to management as identified.
  • Assist in the supervision of all site preparation and layout.
  • Assist in the supervision of job sites on each designated workday and work to ensure construction is carried out in accordance with approved permits and plans; assist in ensuring that proper plan details and codes are followed.
  • Assist in ensuring that Site safety inspections, Daily Log, Observations, Incidents, Quality and Safety Inspections are accurately documented.
  • Quickly and effectively handle any warranty repairs and quality assurance claims or issues in partnership with the Project Planning team.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to effectively work with, manage, train and lead volunteers.
  • Proficiency in reading, analyzing and redlining construction plans.
  • Excellent oral communication skills; effective with diverse audiences
  • Strong critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, risk assessment skills which value engineering and cost management.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the construction/contracting business, especially as a carpenter or framer
  • Valid drivers’ license
  • Experience creating, implementing, monitoring, and following existing processes.

The salary range for this role is $60,000-$65,000.
