The Salon Assistant / Loc Assistant Role

We are seeking a salon assistant who is passionate about locs, eager to learn, and committed to building a strong foundation in the industry.

This role is ideal for a recent cosmetology graduate, current student, or early career stylist who understands they need hands on experience, mentorship, and refinement before working independently on the salon floor.

Responsibilities

• Shampooing, prepping, and assisting with loc maintenance and styling services
• Performing beginning level loc maintenance, retwists, and basic styling under supervision
• Supporting stylists with client preparation and service flow
• Maintaining cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards throughout the salon
• Learning and following salon systems, procedures, and service protocols
• Assisting with client experience from start to finish, including setup and reset
• Supporting product organization, retail recommendations, and client education assistance
• Observing, learning, and actively developing technical and communication skills

Requirements & Experience

• Basic shampoo and blow-dry skills required
• Some experience or exposure to loc maintenance, retwists, or styling (entry-level accepted)
• Willingness to learn crochet services, loc extensions, and microlocs over time
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment
• Portfolio, social media page, or examples of any hair work (student work accepted)
• Strong willingness to learn, take direction, and receive feedback
• Professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic

Interview Process

Selected candidates will participate in an interview and practical assessment.

Candidates advancing to the practical assessment stage must provide a model and demonstrate their technical skills, client interaction, and overall approach to service delivery.
