BattleAxe Digital is a political and advocacy agency working at the intersection of digital strategy, storytelling, and technology. We build and execute high-impact campaigns for advocacy organizations, political campaigns, and causes that matter. We’re looking for a seasoned social media strategist and team leader to join our team. This is a mid-level leadership position within our Organic Social Media vertical. The Associate Director will work closely with the head of our Integrated Strategy Department to develop and execute comprehensive, innovative organic social media programs for our political and advocacy clients. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and strong communicator who understands how to turn big-picture client goals into compelling social strategies and day-to-day execution. They should be equally comfortable developing a strategy, writing copy, giving creative direction, managing a client, analyzing performance, and helping a team navigate a fast-moving news cycle.

Description

Social Media Strategy

  • Serve as a senior strategic voice within BattleAxe’s Organic Social Media team, developing innovative strategies and ideas that help clients break through crowded social environments.
  • Translate broader client goals, messaging priorities, and campaign objectives into clear, actionable social media strategies.
  • Develop platform-specific growth strategies, audience engagement plans, content approaches, and activation ideas across major social platforms.
  • Lead the development of comprehensive social media plans and content calendars, ensuring day-to-day content ladders up to the larger strategic vision.
  • Identify opportunities to evolve or pivot social strategies based on changing political environments, news cycles, audience behavior, platform trends, and campaign performance.
  • Stay connected to internet culture and emerging social trends, and identify opportunities to translate those trends into strategic opportunities for clients.
  • Use audience insights, analytics, social listening, and platform data to inform recommendations and improve campaign performance.
  • Develop proactive and rapid-response strategies that allow clients to participate meaningfully in breaking news, cultural moments, and conversations relevant to their audiences.
  • Partner with copywriters, designers, video producers, paid media strategists, and other internal teams to bring social strategies to life.
  • Write and edit high-quality social copy across platforms and formats, from organic posts and campaign content to rapid-response messaging.
  • Develop scripts and concepts for short-form video and other social-first creative formats.
  • Take ownership of social programs from initial strategy and briefing through execution, optimization, and reporting.


Client Management & Collaboration

  • Serve as a trusted strategic partner and day-to-day social media lead for a portfolio of clients.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and confidently manage both routine and high-touch client needs.
  • Present social strategies, recommendations, performance insights, and creative ideas clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Translate complex social media strategy and platform dynamics into clear recommendations that clients can understand and act on.
  • Manage multiple clients, projects, stakeholders, and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of strategic and creative work.
  • Collaborate across BattleAxe teams to ensure social strategy is integrated with broader paid media, creative, messaging, fundraising, and communications efforts.


Department Operations

  • Help strengthen and evolve BattleAxe’s Organic Social Media practice, including processes, workflows, tools, and best practices.
  • Stay current on changes to social platforms, emerging technologies, social management tools, creator ecosystems, and new opportunities for audience growth and engagement.
  • Identify and test new tools, technologies, and approaches that can improve the quality or performance of client programs.
  • Other duties as assigned


Team Leadership & Management

  • Directly manage and support BattleAxe’s Social Media Senior Strategist, providing clear direction, regular feedback, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Provide cross-functional leadership and help colleagues across departments understand social media strategy, platform dynamics, and best practices.
  • Serve as a senior resource for social media questions and strategic decision-making across the organization.


Core Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise developing social media strategies in the political, advocacy, nonprofit, or adjacent mission-driven space.
  • Deep fluency across major social platforms, with the curiosity and adaptability to quickly understand emerging platforms and new forms of online communication.
  • Experience developing audience growth strategies, including paid follower campaigns and other approaches to building and engaging audiences.
  • Strong understanding of social listening, audience insights, and social performance measurement.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across different platforms, audiences, and formats.


Experience Required

  • 6+ years of experience developing and executing organic social media strategy and content.
  • 1-2+ years of direct people management experience, with a demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Experience working directly with clients, including the ability to manage relationships with professionalism, responsiveness, and confidence.
  • Experience with enterprise social media management platforms such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar tools; expert-level Sprout Social experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.


Salary

$95,000 - $104,000 per year
