About Us:

B-Town Brazadas Swim Club (brazadas.org) is a rapidly growing, USA Swimming-affiliated club based in Bakersfield, California. Less than one year old, we are building a long-term, community-focused program from the ground up.

Our team trains in a brand-new, state-of-the-art 50-meter aquatic center and is committed to developing swimmers of all ages and abilities while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture.

Overview:

The Masters Assistant Swim Coach supports the Brazadas Masters program by helping lead practices and providing instruction to adult swimmers of varying backgrounds and ability levels. This is an excellent opportunity for a coach who enjoys working with adult athletes and wants to be part of a growing swim community without the administrative responsibilities of leading a program.

This role focuses primarily on deck coaching, athlete development, and helping create a positive and engaging training environment for Masters swimmers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with structured swim practices for adult swimmers focused on fitness, technique, and competition
  • Provide technical instruction, stroke development, and individualized feedback
  • Help create a positive, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all Masters athletes
  • Support training plans that serve a wide range of abilities, from fitness swimmers to competitive athletes and triathletes
  • Encourage athlete engagement and retention through consistent coaching presence and relationship building
  • Assist with Masters participation in meets, open water events, and club activities
  • Support occasional social events and community building opportunities
  • Collaborate with club leadership and coaching staff across all programs
  • Provide occasional support to other team or aquatics programs as needed

Position Details:

  • Part-time coaching position
  • Regular coaching responsibilities for Masters practices, primarily weekday mornings between 6:00 and 7:00am
  • Typical commitment of 2 to 5 practices per week, depending on availability and program needs
  • Opportunity to add additional hours through private coaching and other club roles
  • Some weekend availability for meets, events, and team activities
  • Weekly staff meetings

Qualifications:

  • Coaching experience in competitive swimming preferred
  • Experience working with adult athletes is a plus
  • Current USA Swimming or U.S. Masters Swimming certifications, or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Strong technical knowledge of stroke mechanics and training principles
  • Passion for coaching swimmers of all ages and abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, positive, and team oriented approach

Salary

$20 - $30 per hour
