B-Town Brazadas Swim Club (brazadas.org) is a rapidly growing, USA Swimming-affiliated club based in Bakersfield, California. Founded in 2025, Brazadas is building a long-term, community-focused competitive program from the ground up.

Our team trains in a brand-new, state-of-the-art 50-meter aquatic center and is committed to developing swimmers of all ages and abilities while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture.

As a young and growing club, there is significant opportunity for the Head Coach to shape the team’s coaching systems, competitive direction, traditions, community presence, and long-term identity.

Overview:

The Head Coach is the senior coaching leader of B-Town Brazadas Swim Club. Reporting to the Director, this position is responsible for the overall leadership and operation of the competitive swim team.

The Head Coach serves as the primary coach for B-Team, the club’s senior-level training program, while leading the coaching staff and establishing the direction, standards, performance goals, and culture of the full competitive program.

This position is ideal for an experienced, motivated, and community-minded coach who is excited to develop athletes, lead coaches, build strong systems, and help shape a growing competitive swim club.

Relocation assistance is available for qualified out-of-area candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching & Athlete Development

• Serve as the primary coach for B-Team, the club’s senior-level training program
• Design and implement seasonal training plans and championship preparation
• Provide high-level instruction in stroke mechanics, starts, turns, race strategy, and training principles
• Develop athletes toward zones, sectional, Futures, and other national championship-level competition
• Lead B-Team athlete evaluations, goal-setting, placement, and advancement decisions
• Coach athletes at local, travel, and championship meets
• Help B-Team student-athletes understand and navigate the college recruiting process
• Build strong relationships with athletes and families while supporting long-term development and retention
• Periodically coach White Team and Navy Team practices to maintain visibility, support coaches, and remain connected with athletes throughout the program

Team & Staff Leadership

• Lead the overall direction and daily operation of the competitive swim team
• Hire, schedule, supervise, mentor, and evaluate competitive-team coaches
• Establish staff responsibilities, coaching standards, athlete expectations, and team culture
• Supervise and support the Head Age Group Coach
• Lead staff meetings and promote coach education and professional development
• Ensure alignment between White Team, Navy Team, and B-Team
• Determine competitive-team staffing, scheduling, equipment, and operational needs
• Maintain a safe, positive, inclusive, and athlete-centered environment
• Ensure compliance with USA Swimming, Safe Sport, club, and facility requirements

Competition Planning & Meet Entries

• Develop the annual meet calendar
• Prepare B-Team individual entries, event selections, relays, and championship rosters
• Review White Team and Navy Team entries prepared by the Head Age Group Coach
• Finalize and submit all club meet entries to the host team
• Coordinate coaching assignments and coverage for local and travel meets
• Lead championship preparation and team competition strategy
• Support the Head Age Group Coach in their role as Meet Director for club-hosted meets

Team Operations & Communication

• Oversee competitive-team practice schedules, staffing coverage, and training-group structure
• Communicate training expectations, meet plans, athlete progress, and program updates
• Maintain regular office hours and respond to athlete and family phone calls and emails in a timely and professional manner
• Support tryouts, swimmer placement, recruitment, and athlete retention
• Maintain accurate athlete, meet, and program records
• Develop systems and procedures that support the continued growth of a new club
• Contribute to team newsletters, announcements, website content, and social media

Community Engagement & Team Growth

• Build relationships with local high school swim teams, recreation programs, summer leagues, and community organizations
• Maintain a visible and professional presence within the Bakersfield swimming community
• Participate actively in the local USA Swimming LSC and build relationships with coaches, officials, and club leaders
• Represent Brazadas at meets, community events, USA Swimming activities, and outreach opportunities
• Lead or participate in clinics, camps, and athlete-development events
• Promote athlete recruitment, membership growth, and long-term retention
• Coach a limited number of Masters workouts as assigned

Additional Responsibilities

• Manage the competitive program within approved budgets and organizational policies
• Identify and communicate the team’s staffing, equipment, travel, facility, and operational needs
• Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, club events, and organization-wide initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned

Position Details:

• Full-time, salaried position
• Salary range: $90,000–$120,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
• Relocation assistance available for qualified out-of-area candidates
• A flexible schedule is required, including regular morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend responsibilities
• Attendance at practices, swim meets, team events, staff meetings, and planning sessions is required
• Travel to local, regional, and championship meets is required

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 10 years of competitive swim coaching experience
• Current USA Swimming coach member in good standing, or ability to obtain prior to hire
• Significant experience coaching senior-level and championship-level athletes
• Previous Head Coach, Senior Coach, Program Director, or comparable leadership experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated success developing athletes across multiple levels of a competitive program
• Knowledge of the college swimming recruiting process
• Strong technical knowledge of stroke mechanics, training principles, race strategy, and long-term athlete development
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to balance on-deck coaching with administrative and leadership responsibilities
• Community-minded and committed to athlete development, retention, and team culture
• CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard or Coaches Safety Training certifications, or willingness to obtain
• Proficiency in meet-entry, scheduling, administrative, and communication tools
• College degree preferred but not required
