Job Title: Assistant Swim Coach

About Us:

B-Town Brazadas Swim Club (brazadas.org) is a rapidly growing, USA Swimming-affiliated club based in Bakersfield, California. Less than one year old, we are building a long-term, community-focused program from the ground up.

Our team trains in a brand-new, state-of-the-art 50-meter aquatic center and is committed to developing swimmers of all ages and abilities while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture.

Overview:

The Assistant Swim Coach supports the training and development of swimmers across all divisions within the B-Town Brazadas program. Reporting to the Director, this role plays a key part in delivering high-quality coaching, building strong relationships with athletes and families, and contributing to a positive and structured team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help plan and deliver age- and skill-appropriate swim practices across multiple divisions
  • Provide hands-on technical instruction, stroke development, and positive reinforcement
  • Create a positive, safe, and engaging experience for all athletes
  • Support athlete development across developmental, age-group, and senior divisions
  • Assist with team tryouts and swimmer assessments for division placement
  • Provide coaching support across programs as needed
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and staff
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized pool environment
  • Attend swim meets and team events as assigned

Position Details:

  • Part-time position: 2–10 hours per week on deck
  • Flexible schedule based on coach availability and program needs, including some afternoon, evening, and occasional weekend hours
  • Weekly staff meetings
  • Opportunities to add hours through private coaching, clinics, and other club programs
  • Ongoing coaching education and certification support

Qualifications:

  • Coaching experience preferred; competitive swimming experience strongly encouraged
  • Current USA Swimming coaching certifications, or the ability to obtain upon hire
  • Passion for coaching and developing athletes of all ages and ability levels
  • Enthusiasm for learning and continuing coaching education
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Positive, reliable, and team-oriented approach

Salary

$20 - $30 per hour
