The Mechanical Engineer I provides advanced Design for Fabrication and Manufacturing Solutions, Technical Drawings, 3D Modeling Capabilities, Technical Writing, and Engineering Principles to help product advancement, development, and customization of unmanned tracked material handling vehicles. This position is also responsible for assisting with Post Processing, Assembly, and Disassembly of parts and or products as needed. This position will report to the Lead Engineer

Required Qualifications:

  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Must be proficient with Fusion360, SolidWorks, and/or other CAD software.
  • Must have a working understanding of GD&T standards and their applications.
  • Knowledge or experience with welding and fabrication.
  • Knowledge or experience with hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge or experience with structural analysis, FEA, statics/dynamics.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with manual machining equipment (lathe and mill).
  • Knowledge or experience with mechanical/automotive systems maintenance.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors or in a shop exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
  • Ability to move up to 50lbs without accommodation.
  • Ability to work with power tools and basic hand tools.
  • Ability to travel to multiple Axle Box facilities in BCS area.

  • Proficient in technical writing and use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-starter, energized, results-oriented, and able to work independently with little to no guidance or supervision.
  • Ability to meet aggressive reliability, performance, cost, serviceability, and delivery targets.

Notifications:

  • This position will require the completion of a Non-Disclosure Agreement between the employee and the company.
  • This position requires use of a company computer and access to software available by the company. 


Essential Duties and Tasks:

  • Uses engineering principles to develop and apply design recommendations as required to correct/resolve difficult and complex problems.
  • Participates in the conceptualization, design, and production of new products and system modifications.
  • Operates machinery, tools, and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs)
  • Prepares mechanical/manufacturing drawings, DFF analysis, schematics, and assembly models complete with dimensions and tolerances.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by creating, learning, and complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Reports unsafe or dangerous conditions to Supervisor or to HR/Admin.
  • Ensures safe operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, cleaning workstations, sweeping and mopping the floor, etc.

Salary

$55,000 - $65,000 per year
