The Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM) is seeking a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) to serve as a therapist to the autism community in Minnesota. This is a hybrid role with remote work and two days per week in our St. Paul, MN office.


The Therapist (LICSW) is a member of AuSM’s Counseling and Consulting Services team and reports to the Director of Counseling Services. The Therapist (LICSW) provides counseling services to autistic adults and youth including diagnostic assessments and therapy. Our clients are typically diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and commonly co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, etc. The Therapist (LICSW) will play a critical role in serving the needs of our clients and providing the expertise that makes us Minnesota’s first autism resource.



  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions in person and via telehealth.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and evaluations for autism.
  • Complete all client reports and notes in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Recruit and retain clients for counseling services.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with clients.
  • Support the sustainability of the counseling services department by meeting performance expectations in the areas of sessions per week and revenue.
  • Assist billing staff, as needed, with records and information necessary to file client insurance claims and receive payment.
  • Follow HIPPA and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain active licensure and comply with licensing board regulations and professional ethics codes, including the completion of continuing education requirements.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and department meetings.
  • Consult with team members, Licensed Psychologists, and other providers when necessary and appropriate.
  • Make appropriate referrals for therapy needs before termination of treatment.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to AuSM employees on research, topics for presentations, promising practices, and the needs of clients and customers.
  • Represent the organization at events and functions.
  • Facilitate training and classes related to areas of expertise and interest.
  • Serve on internal or external committees to represent the organization or the autism community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Only Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers (LICSW) will be considered.
  • Unfortunately, LSW, LGSW, and LISW candidates will not be considered at this time, but candidates with such credentials should check back regularly for openings in the future.
  • Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of care that is neurodiversity-affirming and culturally competent.
  • Ability to multitask in a changing work environment, while managing competing demands and unexpected.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Apple Computers, and web applications. 


Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with the neurodivergent community.
  • Experience and training in trauma-informed care, EMDR, or other evidence-based approaches.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector.
  • Qualifications to supervise other therapists such as Licensed Graduate Social Workers and clinical interns.
  • Ability to establish strong rapport with patients and their families.
  • Ability to engage with patients experiencing severe cognitive difficulties and/or emotional and behavioral challenges.


Position Details

  • Hybrid position with remote work and two in-person days per week.

  • Full-time therapists are expected to provide a minimum of 25 billable hours per week.
  • Therapist salaries start at $53,000 per year (depending on experience) and include monthly performance-based bonus pay.
