The Autism Society of Minnesota is seeking a part-time Accounting Clerk to provide administrative support to the bookkeeping function of the organization. The Accounting Clerk will assist the Finance Director in recording and categorizing financial transactions in the accounting system and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and coded. This is an in-person, independent contractor position at our office in St. Paul, MN.

The Accounting Clerk will be responsible for processing and managing accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP), reports to the Finance Director, and is a member of the Operations Department.

 

The Accounting Clerk, or Part-Time Bookkeeper, will:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments.
  • Record and categorize financial transactions in the accounting system and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and coded.
  • Process and manage accounts payable and receivable.

 

The ideal candidate will understand financial concepts and will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records. This role is essential for the smooth operation of our financial processes and will involve working closely with the Finance Director.

 

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Accounting Clerk include:

  • Maintain accurate financial records and assist in bookkeeping by providing necessary financial data.
  • Assist the Finance Director with:
  • Data entry
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Accounts Payable
  • Collections
  • Perform account reconciliation to ensure accuracy in financial reporting, including researching and rectifying any discrepancies
  • Scanning, printing, and preparing documents
  • Invoicing vendors and customers
  • Utilize QuickBooks Online Plus for bookkeeping tasks, ensuring all entries are timely and accurate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills

  • Nonprofit bookkeeping experience required, including the tracking of restricted net assets.
  • Must have experience using QuickBooks Online Plus and Microsoft Excel
  • Effective verbal and/or written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a changing work environment, while managing competing demands and unexpected challenges.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check. This position will have access to financial data and personally identifiable health information and may interact with vulnerable individuals.
  • Respect for the dignity of people with disabilities.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Formal training in generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) and demonstrated knowledge of financial concepts and account reconciliations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Prior experience using Bill.com, Microsoft 365, Zoom, and similar tools preferred.
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities.

 

Position Hours and Location

  • Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
  • 2380 Wycliff St. #102, St. Paul, MN 55114
  • This is an in-person, independent contractor position at our St. Paul, MN office. 

 

Compensation

  • $22 per hour
  • An estimated average of 16 hours per week
