Description

P&ID Drafter - Advanced Manufacturing

Position Summary

Aurelia Consulting, LLC is seeking a P&ID Drafter to support an advanced manufacturing project by creating, maintaining, and revising Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and related process/utility documentation. This role requires a strong ability to coordinate with a remote, multi-discipline design team, interpret non-standard markups and redlines, and proactively close information gaps by asking the right questions and making sound, well-documented assumptions when needed.

You will work closely with engineering stakeholders to keep P&IDs aligned with evolving process design, equipment selections, and utility distribution.

Key Responsibilities

P&ID Production and Revision Control

· Draft, revise, and maintain P&IDs for process systems and plant utilities throughout design development.

· Incorporate comments, sketches, and markups from multiple sources (including non-standard markup conventions) and convert them into clean, consistent, publishable drawings.

· Maintain drawing revision history, issue logs, and change tracking (clouding, delta notes, revision blocks) per project expectations.

· Ensure P&IDs remain consistent with equipment lists and tag registers, line lists (where applicable), and valve/instrument tagging and symbology conventions.

·  Support field-driven updates and coordination-driven changes as required.

Model and Document Coordination (BIM-Enabled Workflow)

· Use Revit to coordinate design intent between P&IDs and the federated 3D model (routing constraints, equipment locations, utility corridors, tie-in points, etc.).

· Use Navisworks for model review and coordination, including issue identification and support of multi-discipline alignment.

· Use Bluebeam for PDF review workflows, markup interpretation, and comment resolution tracking.

·  Coordinate drawing updates with a remote design team (process, piping, mechanical, controls/instrumentation, and construction stakeholders).

Process/Utilities Understanding and Constructability Mindset

· Apply a practical understanding of process piping and utility distribution to produce P&IDs that reflect real installation intent.

· Demonstrate working knowledge of typical installation/field requirements and representation for pumps, filters, strainers, and instruments, as well as common manual, control, and check valves.

· Identify inconsistencies or missing information and proactively drive closure with engineering rather than waiting for perfect inputs.

Required Qualifications

· 3+ years’ experience drafting and maintaining P&IDs in an industrial, manufacturing, or process environment.

· Professional proficiency with Autodesk/AutoCAD Smart P&ID, Bluebeam Revu (markup workflows), Navisworks (model review/coordination), and Revit (coordination and model-based collaboration; piping familiarity and CADMEP fabrication part knowledge is a plus).

· Strong ability to interpret mixed-format inputs (hand sketches, narrative notes, informal redlines, and non-standard markup styles) and convert them into accurate drawing updates.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment: self-starter, organized, and accountable.

· Strong communication skills for remote work: able to summarize assumptions, track open items, and clearly communicate what is needed from engineers to finalize deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience supporting advanced manufacturing or complex industrial projects (e.g., battery materials, specialty chemical process, high-purity utilities, specialty gases).

· Familiarity coordinating plant utilities and distribution systems (process cooling water, compressed air, nitrogen, and similar services).

· Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) / BIM 360 document control workflows.

· Experience working with line lists, valve lists, instrument indices, tie-in lists, or similar engineering registers.

· Exposure to constructability practices and field-driven drawing updates (RFI-driven changes, as-builts, redline incorporation).

Work Style and Expectations

· Proactive and resourceful: seeks missing information, proposes reasonable assumptions, and documents them clearly.

· Detail-oriented: catches inconsistencies (tags, line numbers, callouts, mismatched services) and raises them early.

· Collaboration-focused: works smoothly with a remote team and supports alignment between process intent, model constraints, and drawing outputs.

· Comfortable with ambiguity and iteration; keeps documentation current as design develops.

What Success Looks Like

· P&IDs are consistently updated, revision-controlled, and aligned with the latest engineering direction.

· Markups (standard or not) are translated into clean, consistent deliverables without excessive back-and-forth.

· Coordination issues between model/design intent and diagrams are identified early and closed quickly.

· The team trusts the drawings because they are organized, accurate, and reflect practical installation reality.

Location and Compensation

This role is fully remote with some limited travel possibly required during the design phase to interface with engineering team or generate equipment documentation and P&ID’s based on pilot equipment in the Oakland, CA area.
