Athios is seeking a Network Engineer to support and collaborate with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS), the security and law enforcement arm of the U.S. Department of State (the Department). DS is a world leader in international investigations, threat analysis, cyber security, counterterrorism, security technology, and protection of people, property, and information. Its primary mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for the conduct of U.S. foreign policy. The Office of Security Technology (ST) supports the DS mission through the application and use of appropriate technical security countermeasures.

Description

Specific Responsibilities

  • Create, configure, implement, and maintain networks
  • Configure and test computer and network components before deployments
  • Design, Install, and Terminate network infrastructure cabling
  • Set up patch management and backup management solutions
  • Troubleshoot a variety of hardware and software issues in a timely manner, while under time and resource constraints
  • Assist in the planning of policies and guidelines and develop documentation
  • Evaluate new technologies and security vulnerabilities
  • Test vulnerabilities associated with the applications and hardware for networks


Qualifications

  • Must have 5 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Or 3 years of experience and a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or certifications
  • Knowledge and experience with system architecture, application design, and device management and deployment
  • Ability to analyze computer and network environment to optimize network performance, security, and testing functionality
  • Knowledge of bandwidth utilization
  • Netgear and or CISCO (preferred) experience
  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills
  • Support and collaborate Department of State personnel regarding the testing procedures, results, and recommendations for implementing tested technologies securely
  • Experience with commercial and government best practices in securing computers and networks
  • Experience with configuring, designing, and maintaining Window servers


Desired Skills

  • Virtualization or VMware experience
  • Basic understanding of command line scripting (PowerShell or Bash)
  • Basic understanding of databases or SQL
  • Android/iOS/Blackberry operating systems experience
  • Knowledge and or experience with Internet of Things (IOT)
  • Ability to research, test, review, and report on emergent technologies
  • Experience with Linux based platforms


Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Normal office environment
  • Travel may be required to travel OCONUS to conduct installation, training, or maintenance at diplomatic facilities
  • OCONUS travel may include critical threat locations around the world with austere living conditions
  • Domestic travel may be required for training and program coordination


Salary

$125,000 - $140,000 per year
