RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Assistant Director will: 

Operational Management:  

  • Assist the Executive Director in overseeing daily operations and ensuring a smooth functioning of the center.  
  • Maintain and implement center policies and procedures in accordance with state regulations and best practices.  
  • Manage scheduling and staffing to ensure adequate coverage and effective program delivery. 

Staff Supervision & Development:  

  • Support the recruitment, training, and supervision of staff.  
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and professional development sessions.  
  • Provide mentorship and support to teachers and staff to enhance their professional growth and effectiveness. 

Program & Curriculum Support:  

  • Assist in developing and implementing age-appropriate curricula and educational programs. 
  • Monitor classroom activities and provide feedback to ensure high-quality instruction. 
  • Organize and oversee special events and activities that enhance the learning experience. 

Parent & Community Engagement:  

  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, teachers and the Executive Director regarding menu changes, special dietary needs, and feedback on meal quality. Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to coordinate special events of themed meals. 
  • Address parent inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for families and community members. 

Compliance & Safety: 

  • Ensure the center complies with all state licensing requirements and health and safety regulations. 
  • Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency evacuation plans. Conduct regular drills and training sessions to ensure staff readiness. 
  • Handle emergency situations and incidents promptly and appropriately. 

Budgeting & Cafeteria Management:  

  • Assist in the development of the cafeteria budget and monitor expenses related to food purchases, staffing, and equipment maintenance. 
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without comprising quality or safety standards. 

Administrative: 

  • Assist with budgeting, financial management, and record-keeping. 
  • Maintain accurate enrollment records and ensure proper documentation. 
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts to promote the center and increase enrollment. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and childcare management software Brightwheel. 
  • Knowledge of Maryland childcare licensing regulations and standards. 
  • Must meet all suitability for employment criteria set by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) including criminal background check and medical report.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a childcare or educational setting, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role. 
  • Experience in curriculum development and implementation. 
  • CPR First Aid Certification, ADA Certification, and Medication Administration Certification are required. Must be willing to obtain within 30 days of employment. 

 

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES 

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:  

  • Ability to interact with the children and all staff members physically and verbally. 
  • Ability to perform the following physical activities: stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, and bend. 
  • At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50lbs. 

 

JOB TYPE 

  • Full-Time | 40 Hours Per Week 

 

SCHEDULE 

  • Monday-Friday: 8:00am-4:30pm 

 

SALARY 

Compensation will be determined by the candidate’s level of education and experience! 

  • $21.00-$23.00/Hourly
