Job Overview: 

The Summer Camp Assistant Coach will be responsible for following the lead of and collaborating with the Summer Camp Head Coach to create a vibrant climbing camp and shape a positive and empowering environment for children aged 6-16. They will work collaboratively with the head coaches and other assistant coaches to implement an appropriate youth climbing curriculum. The Summer Camp Assistant Coach will effectively manage small groups of youth climbers, communicate positively with families, provide hands-on coaching/encouragement during various youth activities and assist with general camp tasks such as supervising lunch, cleaning up, etc... They will follow all ASCEND safety guidelines and best practices to manage risk and promote a safe environment. They will be required to obtain child clearances within 45 days of employment. Anticipated start date for this position is the week of June 1 with interviews taking place in early May.

What you would do:

• Work with a team led by the Summer Camp Head Coach and Youth Department Team to implement an appropriate youth climbing curriculum focused on holistic progress and love of the sport.
• Lead small groups in positive and engaging climbing practice sessions, as well as other summer camp activities.
• Effectively follow directions and tone set by the Summer Camp Head Coach
• Communicate clearly and positively with the Youth Department Team and customer families.
• Ensure all safety policies and best practices are being followed.
• Work within company guidelines to continually review and improve program performance

What we’re looking for: *Not required but recommended

• Previous leadership experience, preferably with children
• A basic understanding and ability to teach progressive athletic skills
• Basic climbing experience: comfort with all three disciplines, boulder, top rope, sport climbing is a plus
• Effective communication skills
• A positive attitude and appreciation of the sport
