ASCEND South Side and Point Breeze are seeking fitness instructors for a cross-disciplinary fitness program. Fitness Instructors at ASCEND are responsible for leading safe, engaging fitness classes for all ability levels. Class styles and focus can vary widely and engage both climbers and general clients alike. All classes will help students develop, maintain, and progress their fitness goals, while focusing on a balanced approach to health and wellness. All instructors will be responsible for providing clients with a safe and exceptional class experience, fostering a supportive environment with clients and among the instructor team and across all departments of ASCEND.

About Our Fitness Classes

Larger group X classes (5+ students) generally occur in the yoga studio, where limited equipment is available with more of a focus on body weight exercises.


Smaller group training and skill-based classes (4 or fewer) generally occur in the fitness spaces with a focus on traditional fitness equipment and technique.

Main Responsibilities & Duties

  • Build relationships with members to encourage regular participation and promote retention.
  • Actively promote yourself and the ASCEND fitness program
  • Teach a minimum of 1 class/week by holding a recurring schedule you can commit to.
  • Optionally, plan and execute fitness workshops
  • Support your team and sub whenever available
  • Secure substitute teachers whenever necessary
  • Set up space appropriately with equipment and music
  • Tidy the space after every class
  • Develop an appropriate warmup, workout, & cool down for all ability levels for each class you teach
  • Ensure that participants are using correct form in order to decrease the risk for injury
  • Provide an energetic, engaging, and supportive atmosphere to participants
  • Participate in team meetings and attend local and regional events when appropriate
  • Stay up to date with any relevant certifications and trainings
  • Check in participants via gym software

Qualities & Experience

Formal teacher certification is preferred, but not required. Please be prepared to speak to your professional training and experience.


  • Experience with fitness or sports-related activity 
  • Movement and workout modification experience
  • Previous Group Fitness Exercise experience with classes
  • Effective communication skills
  • An understanding of current trends in fitness (locomotives, HIIT, mobility training, kettlebells)
  • Outgoing and personable with a desire to build relationships within and outside the community
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Genuine desire to inspire and motivate others
  • Reliable and professional
  • Optimism and hard work with a love for health, fitness, and the [solidcore] workout
  • Passionate about helping others become the strongest version of themselves and achieve their goals

Salary

$20 or more per hour, depending on experience.
