Position Description

Artslandia Magazine and En Face Magazine seek a visionary Art Director to lead our creative direction across multiple projects and publications. This individual will blend strategic oversight with creative execution, ensuring our brands' compelling and cohesive visual narratives. This role involves leadership across design processes, brand consistency, production oversight, and team management while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Leadership and Strategy

In this role, you'll be tasked with setting the overarching vision for our design and creative direction, aligning this vision closely with our brand goals and our audience's expectations. You will oversee the design of all publications from their inception to their final delivery, requiring close collaboration with key team members, including the Associate Publisher, Operations Director, Sales Manager, and Project Managers. This collaborative approach ensures that every project is cohesive, meets our high standards, and fulfills our strategic objectives.

Design Management and Production

You will create and manage a system to assign publication projects to external contract designers, ensuring that this process aligns with our budgetary constraints and quality standards. Part of your role involves developing templates for these publications to guarantee that all design work meets client specifications and adheres strictly to our brand guidelines. Furthermore, you'll oversee the entire production process, which encompasses proofing, editing, and the approval of publications. This comprehensive oversight extends across various stages and platforms, including PageProof, Apogee, and InSite, ensuring a seamless and high-quality output for all our publication efforts.

Team Leadership and Development

In this capacity, you will mentor staff, freelance designers, and interns, guiding their professional development and encouraging the production of high-quality work. Your role includes reviewing and approving the work of contract designers to maintain a consistent level of excellence across all projects. Additionally, you will be involved in hiring new publication designers, playing a crucial role in selecting talented individuals who align with our creative vision. Monitoring their hours will also be a key responsibility, ensuring that productivity and workflow are optimized for peak efficiency and effectiveness.

Brand Consistency and Quality Assurance

Your role involves upholding brand consistency across all projects by strictly adhering to internal Brand Guidelines and updating the Designer Handbook. This task is critical to ensure our visual identity remains cohesive and strong. Additionally, you will be responsible for regularly proofing and adjusting publication layouts and ads, a process vital to maintaining our commitment to quality from the initial design phase to the final print. Part of your duties also includes troubleshooting any print issues and promptly addressing advertiser or client complaints. This approach is key to sustaining high customer service and product quality standards, ensuring that our publications not only meet but exceed expectations.

Operational Efficiency and Collaboration

In this position, you will be crucial in bridging the communication gap between the design, sales, and production teams, ensuring that risks, obstacles, and schedules are managed effectively. You will be tasked with facilitating weekly production meetings and monthly design reviews, initiatives that are essential for fostering collaboration and driving continuous improvement across departments. Additionally, your responsibilities will include onboarding and training diverse stakeholders—clients, designers, sales teams, and production managers—on our systems and processes, ensuring everyone is aligned and proficient in their roles for smooth project execution and delivery.

Innovation and Vision

You will spearhead the creative development of the Artslandia Annual design, a pivotal project that epitomizes our brand's artistic apex. This involves organizing files and coordinating the publication process, overseeing photoshoots and the aggregation of assets, and ensuring that every visual element aligns with our overarching vision. Additionally, your role necessitates staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, enabling you to seek innovative solutions and creative products constantly. This proactive approach is crucial for enhancing our brand's market presence, ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of our industry.
