DESCRIPTION and CURRENT NEED

Arise Collective is a unique organization operating at the nexus of prison chaplaincy, women’s issues, and social justice with a mission to equip women with the tools and support they need to heal, grow and thrive, both in prison and in the communities to which they return. In 2025, Arise Collective proudly celebrates 45 years of service has expanded its programming with a new reentry model that provides comprehensive, holistic wraparound services for formerly incarcerated women, including housing and access to education and employment opportunities.


As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Transportation Coordinator to support safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation for program participants and to ensure the effective coordination and maintenance of our transportation system.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

DRIVING & PARTICIPANT SUPPORT FUNCTIONS (60%)

●     Safely transport participants to and from designated locations in a timely and professional manner.

●     Ensure participant comfort, safety, and confidentiality during transport.

●     Operate vehicles responsibly and in accordance with all traffic laws and regulations.

●     Utilize navigation tools safely and effectively to determine optimal routes.

●     Maintain the cleanliness, fueling, and readiness of organization vehicles at all times.

●     Uphold a positive, respectful, and trauma-informed environment for participants during transport.


ADMINISTRATIVE & COORDINATION (40%)

●     Coordinate, plan, and schedule weekly transportation based on participant trip sheets and program needs.

●     Communicate weekly schedules to participants, drivers, and program leadership.

●     Maintain accurate and up-to-date mileage logs, trip records, and maintenance documentation.

●     Schedule and track vehicle service appointments, repairs, inspections, and regular maintenance.

●     Ensure compliance with organizational vehicle policies, insurance requirements, and safety standards.

●     Report incidents, accidents, tickets, or maintenance issues promptly in accordance with policy.

●     Support general administrative and operational needs, including errands, supply pickups, and deliveries.

●     Participate in team meetings, supervision, and organizational trainings as required.


SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

●     Valid North Carolina driver’s license with a safe driving record.

●     Must meet and maintain eligibility under Arise Collective’s auto insurance policy.

●     Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and local routes.

●     Ability to use GPS, mapping applications, and basic Computer systems.

●     Excellent time management, reliability, and judgment.

●     Effective communication and interpersonal skills.


DESIRED QUALITIES

●     High school diploma or equivalent.

●     Prior experience in transportation or logistics preferred.

●     Strong work ethic, a high degree of patience, and grit to push through difficult challenges.

●     Strong planning, scheduling, and follow-through skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the physical ability required to operate a vehicle. Requires excellent hand-eye-foot coordination; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp; visual acuity to use a keyboard and other equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 


WORK REQUIREMENTS

This is an off-site position with a primary purpose to safely transport participants to and from destinations in the community. Travel will mainly be in Wake County, NC for up to 30 hours per week. Regular afternoons, evenings, and weekends required. The impact of actions is great in this position with potential harm to participant safety and well-being.


JOB TYPE: Non-exempt part-time position.


SALARY RANGE: $21 to $24 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Pro-rated medical, vision and dental benefits, retirement plan with match, pre-tax benefits and generous paid time and leave.
