Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop, and retain Principal Engineers and Leads across all engineering disciplines; foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop engineering leadership capability across the organization; coach and mentor Principal Engineers and Leads, build succession plans, and create clear career growth paths for technical and management talent.
  • Partner with Principals and Leads on performance cycles: they own day-to-day mentoring, coaching, and draft reviews; you provide final sign-off and hold full HR accountability including PIPs and compensation/promotion recommendations.
  • Own delivery across the full product development lifecycle from concept through integration, validation, and production readiness; accountable for cross-discipline schedules, milestones, and end-to-end execution.
  • Coordinate priorities, schedules, and resources across engineering verticals; serve as the escalation point for cross-discipline schedule, resource, and priority conflicts, routing technical disputes to the CTO and principals; represent engineering in executive reviews and customer discussions.
  • Partner with the Chief Technology Officer to translate technical direction into team plans and delivery commitments; coordinate with the Principal Mech & Tech on integrated program delivery across disciplines.
  • Establish governance rhythms for design reviews, risk management, and quality gates; track delivery via KPIs and surface risks early to the CTO.
  • Drive resource planning, workforce development, headcount forecasts, and hiring; ensure the engineering organization scales effectively to support product development, production transition, and long-term company growth.

Key Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or related Engineering field.
  • 10+ years in hardware and/or software product development, with 4+ years managing multi-disciplinary teams including senior engineers and technical leads.
  • Strong people leadership experience including performance management, hiring, succession planning, and organizational development; demonstrated ability to build and scale engineering teams through periods of growth.
  • Demonstrated experience leading through delegation, trusting Leads and Principals to own their domains while maintaining full accountability for outcomes and risk.
  • Enough familiarity with hardware and software product development to understand the trade-offs, judge schedule estimates, and spot delivery risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex schedules, delivery milestones, and cross-functional dependencies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to present status, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to executives and customers.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience managing through technical leads who own day-to-day mentoring and draft reviews, while you hold final HR accountability.
  • Working familiarity with embedded systems, RF/electrical hardware, or application software sufficient to support Principal Engineers.
  • Experience managing interdependent hardware and software workstreams through production; knowledge of DFM, DFT, and software validation practices.
  • Exposure to compliance standards (EMI/EMC, cybersecurity, safety-critical software) and applicable regulatory frameworks.
