Aquatic Labs has developed tools that have the potential to disrupt a host of markets and industries.  As a core part of our leadership team, you will take point in advancing our market strategy, from market segmentation analyses to product strategy to developing new business opportunities from lead to close. Your key metrics will be revenue growth and business line expansion. Success in this role will require a deep understanding of our current and future markets and the development of a clear strategy for entering new markets in ways that best capitalize on Aquatic Lab’s technology, expertise, and product lines.

As part of the business development team, you will be tasked with determining which of a number of potential new markets to tackle in what order, what are the most strategic market segments, and how to enter those markets. You will need to structure the work, gather information by talking to potential customers and industry experts, understand our products and unique technologies, and ultimately work with leadership to finalize a market expansion strategy and execute it. From the start you will work closely with the CEO to advance customer relationships and to explore and enter new markets.


This is an in-person position at Central Square in Cambridge, MA.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Track record of commercial success in an early-stage start up where you are building the plane as you fly it.  Comfort with the messiness of early stage go-to-market is essential. 
  • Able to identify and analyze strategic markets, and to rapidly identify, develop, and implement new commercialization strategies. 
  • Independent and capable of structuring your own work. You will be reporting directly to the CEO, but you need to proactively propose your work plan, next steps, move your initiatives forward, and ultimately own the results.
  • Familiarity with the structures and processes around early-stage sales and go to market, including developing the sales playbook and knowing what core documents are stage appropriate for Aquatic Labs, and helping develop them. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Goal oriented and able to agree to reasonable targets, and reach them. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience with market and competitor research, both primary and secondary.
  • Good grasp of science and engineering concepts, especially those related to chemical properties of the ocean (pH, alkalinity, salinity, chemical concentrations, etc.) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CDR / climate science / carbon markets also a plus.
  • You are excited by a fast paced environment.


Preferred Experience:

  • 4+ years successful direct sales, market strategy or business development experience 
  • Consulting and experience in startups are a plus
  • MBA  / degrees in related science / engineering fields a plus
