Anyware Robotics Mechatronics Engineer Fremont, CA · Full time

Description

The Company:

None of the following is written by AI or generalized to all positions. I, Sam, believe that we all need a human touch to establish the first interaction between you and me.

I founded Anyware Robotics 3 years ago with a strong belief in general purpose robots will make a significant impact in the industrial world. 3 years later, we see it is happening: our Pixmo robot is working in the container, on the dock, and alongside machines. At Anyware, we are building that ONE hardware and that ONE software to materialize a general purpose robot in places where no humans wants to be in: those hot, humid, noisy environments. We are the ones pushing the forefront of general-purpose robotics.

Leading the hardware team right now, I have the two fundamental beliefs in how we work: an iterative engineering approach and a collective working culture.

We iterate heavily. I do not believe that great engineering is a one shot process: it takes time and effort. Over the years, we have iterated over 50 generations of base/gripper/vision system design and we are still polishing to make it better. We worship the value of POC and fast iteration, and we would hope you have similar mindsets as we do.

We are owners and collaborators. Everyone in the team is an owner who drives the progress of a project. From our CEO to our part-time intern, everyone owns an end-to-end process: host brainstorms, do POCs, write design documents, organize reviews, and push for production. At the same time, we all need help from each other: a robot consists of ME, EE, Control, SW… The owner coordinate resources to make it happen. At the end the day, we cheer for the owner’s steering and everyone’s propelling.

I sometimes describe our hardware team as a hardware fraternity/sorority where we are a group of closely connected folks who are enthusiastic about robotics, eager to make breakthroughs, and passionate about seeing our robot working at our customer sites.

Please apply only if you share our mentality and are ready to grow in a fast pace startup. We grow together, and we grow fast.

The Job:

  • Collaborating with the hardware team to brainstorm and fast-pace prototype new ideas and concepts.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including software engineers, electrical engineers, and industrial designers to design the next generation hardware for the Pixmo robot.
  • Supporting the assembly, testing, and validation of robotic prototypes and products. Instructing technicians/lab workers to optimize workload.
  • Assisting in the analysis and optimization of mechanical designs for performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Participating in design reviews and providing feedback on mechanical designs.
  • Documenting design iterations, test results, and project progress.
  • Investigating and troubleshooting issues of the robotics system. Develop and implement targeted solutions as well as documentation to reduce potential failures in future.
  • Consistently demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship in all engineering projects, ensuring that every design, part, and assembly is completed to exact specifications.
  • Sharing your knowledge and skills with your teammates, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and growth.

You:

  • Currently pursing or holding a degree in fields such as Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent. 1+ year of industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping tools and shop equipment, including 3D printers, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Mentality for fast prototyping and testing.
  • Previous experience of mechanical design, drawings (SolidWorks), GD&T, building and integration of robotic platforms. Robot manipulation experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as sheet-metal, weldment, machining.
  • Highly motivated teammate with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic start-up environment as part of a small team.
  • Work on a full-time schedule at our office in Fremont.
  • Open for regular short onsite visits and for extended onsite visits during feature delivery.
