Anne Arundel Accounting & Taxes (AAATAX) is hiring an experienced tax professional to serve as a client advisor, technical resource, and reviewer for business and trust returns and individual (1040) returns. Our primary focus as a firm is to help our clients preserve wealth with tax strategy, and each return must be looked at with a critical eye that reaches beyond the documents provided by the client.
This role is a great fit if you’ve started (or seriously considered starting) your own tax firm—but found yourself overwhelmed by the admin, overhead, tech setup, follow-ups, and constant “everything is on me” pressure. You still want to do excellent tax work, help build a practice, and be part of a strong team. You enjoy helping people navigate taxation and understand the importance of providing our clients with the support they need.
This is a part-time W-2 position with the potential to grow into a full-time role. We operate as a remote, largely asynchronous firm—focused on clear workflows and strong communication—so our team can build meaningful careers with flexibility while balancing the needs of family and personal life.
You will:
- Identify client opportunities for tax planning and follow escalation process
- Review and finalize 1120S, 1065, and 1041 returns and related schedules/support (about 50 per year)
- Review and finalize 1040 returns prepared by others using a checklist and quality standards (less than 125 per year)
- Review and finalize client tax plans prepared by others
- Provide clear review comments and coaching feedback to preparers to improve quality and consistency
- Answer technical questions as needed (with Client Experience Managers handling most coordination with clients)
- Help us build and refine SOPs/checklists as we scale a year-round advisory and compliance practice.
- Assist Client Experience Managers with client onboarding and client mid-year check-ins. Collaborate with team members/affiliates for follow-ups and action items
Minimum requirements
- 5 years of tax preparation/review experience
- Strong experience with S-Corps (1120S) and partnerships (1065)
- Experience with trust returns (1041) (or strong willingness to learn quickly)
- A reviewer’s mindset: organized workpapers, tie-outs, clean documentation, and consistent standards
- Interest in tax planning/advisory (you naturally notice opportunities while working)
- Comfortable working in a tech-forward, process-driven environment using:
- TaxDome
- ProConnect Tax
- ClickUp
- QuickBooks Online
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Location preference
We are remote, but we strongly prefer candidates located in Maryland, Washington D.C. or Florida.
What you won’t be responsible for
- Marketing or lead generation
- Owning firm admin/overhead or building the tech stack alone
- Chasing every missing document (our Client Experience Managers handle most follow-ups)
- Answering a million quick questions (our CEM and mid-year check-in process help reduce these)
Logistics
- Ideal onboarding timeframe between July 2026 and September 2026
- Flexible part-time to start (with growth potential if desired)
- Year-round position with some increased hours during Q1
- Competitive pay based on experience
- Automatic 3% employer retirement contribution for all employees working over 10 hours per week
- Work from home. Must have secure high-speed internet access.
