Ancient Song Doula Services is a national birth justice organization committed to eradicating maternal and infant mortality and morbidity among Black and Latinx communities. Founded on equity, advocacy, and cultural humility principles, Ancient Song transforms maternal health outcomes through comprehensive doula training, community education, and policy change. Ancient Song focuses on centering marginalized voices and addressing systemic inequities, providing direct services, policy advocacy, and community support to uplift families and communities. Through our Birth Justice Hubs, we empower community-based doulas, advocates, and families with the necessary resources and knowledge to thrive.
Position Overview
The Birth Justice Hub Liaison will be the primary contact between the Birth Justice Institute and local communities. This role is integral to connecting and supporting Birth Justice Hubs, working with local advocates, doulas, and community organizations to promote maternal health equity and increase access to birth justice resources. The liaison will foster relationships, organize local engagement activities, and ensure resources are effectively shared with hub participants and the community.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement and Outreach
- Build relationships with community organizations, local leaders, and residents to support the Birth Justice Hubs’ goals.
- Attend community meetings, events, and relevant gatherings to represent the Birth Justice Institute and inform communities about available resources and services.
- Act as a resource for birth justice information, answering inquiries, and connecting community members with the appropriate support or services.
Hub Coordination and Support
- Provide ongoing support to designated Birth Justice Hubs by facilitating regular communication, monitoring hub activities, and ensuring alignment with the Birth Justice Institute’s mission and objectives.
- Assist in organizing workshops, educational events, and training at each hub location, coordinating logistics, registration, and follow-up.
- Support hub facilitators in addressing challenges, organizing local advocacy efforts, and identifying opportunities for community-driven initiatives.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Collect and document data on hub activities, participant engagement, and community feedback to inform program improvements.
- Prepare weekly reports on hub activities, community impact, and any identified needs or challenges.
Travel and Mobility
- Travel regularly to various hub locations and community meetings, ensuring that the needs of each hub are met and that relationships are sustained.
- Possess reliable transportation, as travel to multiple locations across the area is required for this position.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or program coordination.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for maternal health equity and birth justice.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to a flexible schedule.
- Familiarity with community-based work and a strong understanding of the social determinants of health.
Additional Requirements
- Reliable car and valid driver’s license, with proof of auto insurance.
- Ability to travel to various locations within the service area, with occasional evening and weekend availability.
