Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled Solder Technician to join our team in Troy, MI. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong attention to detail who enjoy working with precision soldering equipment and small electronic components. You'll work in a 4-day, 10-hour shift schedule, giving you a 3-day weekend every week unless overtime is needed, which always falls on the 5th day, ensuring you still get a minimum of a 2-day weekend.
Key Responsibilities

Hand solder and rework electronic components on printed circuit boards (PCBs) following IPC standards

Use hand tools, soldering irons, hot air rework stations, and microscopes to perform precision soldering

Follow instructions and ensure process and product conformity, maintaining high quality standards

Perform visual inspections to identify solder defects such as cold joints, solder bridges, or insufficient solder

Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency, workflow, and product quality
- Identify and communicate issues related to component placement, soldering, and rework

Collaborate with engineers and production staff to troubleshoot and resolve soldering challenges

Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring compliance with safety and 5S principles

Document work performed and report any assembly or soldering issues
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; IPC-610/620 familiarity is a plus (training provided if needed)
- Experience with hand soldering, rework, or PCB assembly preferred, but entry-level candidates with a strong aptitude for detail and precision will be considered
- Ability to work with small components under a microscope
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and measurement equipment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured work instructions
- A proactive mindset—willing to suggest and implement improvements
- Team player with excellent communication skills

Solder Technician
The Solder Technician is responsible for assembling, soldering, and reworking electronic components on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and other assemblies following IPC standards. This role ensures high-quality workmanship in compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and company guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hand Soldering & Assembly:
- Perform hand soldering of through-hole (THT) and surface-mount (SMT) components following IPC-A-610 & J-STD-001 standards.
- Assemble and modify electronic assemblies using proper tools and techniques.
- Rework & Repair:
- Remove and replace defective electronic components as per IPC-7711/7721 rework and repair standards.
- Conduct troubleshooting and repair of soldering defects.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Follow work instructions, assembly drawings, and technical documents.
- Maintain work logs in ERP and accurate records of completed work, defects, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection protocols and workplace safety regulations.
- Maintain work space and follow production floor cleaning policies.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
- Operate soldering irons, hot air rework stations, and automated soldering equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of soldering tools and workstations.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with engineers and quality teams to resolve assembly issues.
- Participate in process improvements and training to enhance soldering skills and efficiency.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Certification:

IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) Certification preferred.

J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical & Electronic Assemblies) Certification preferred.

IPC-7711/7721 (Rework, Modification, and Repair of Electronic Assemblies) is a plus.
- Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience in hand soldering and rework of PCBs in an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, assembly instructions, and schematics.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Knowledge of ESD protection and workplace safety guidelines.
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or associate degree in electronics technology is a plus.
