Ampaire is seeking a Staff/Senior Staff Engineer, Flight Test. This role will be responsible for supporting flight test planning and execution of Ampaire’s hybrid electric aircraft. Key qualifications include experience with planning, execution, and reporting on aircraft test programs. The role is based at our Long Beach Airport headquarters. Senior Staff Engineer level will be considered for candidates that meet more of the optional qualifications.

Description

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support experimental aircraft ground and flight test programs
  • Write test plans
  • Lead or support test execution
  • Collect and report test results 
  • Support safety risk management through hazard identification, mitigation strategies, and safety reviews
  • Support instrumentation development and installation
  • Support aircraft operations with 
  • Aircraft logistics and maintenance supporting A&Ps
  • Facility equipping and maintenance
  • Position based at Long Beach HQ facility with frequent travel to Camarillo Airport facility
  • Reports to Manager, Aircraft Operations

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of increasing responsibilities in experimental flight test engineering
  • Experience with ground support in flight test programs
  • Proficient with aircraft instrumentation and data analysis
  • Proficient with flight principles such as aerodynamics, stability, control, and systems performance  
  • Familiar with FAA regulations including Part 23

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 
  • 10+ years of increasing responsibilities in experimental flight test engineering
  • Experience with on-aircraft support in flight test programs
  • Interactions with FAA DARs
  • Participation in aircraft test projects that achieved FAA Part 23 certification
  • FAA Class III medical certificate
  • Graduation from a recognized military or civilian pilot training program

Salary

$120,000 - $185,000 per year
