This position is responsible for setting up and using grinders and superfinishing machinery to complete customer orders. This position is also responsible for performing final inspections to ensure there are no defects in the customer’s orders.

Set up and run tool and cutter grinders.
• Set up and operate Hanchett grinders. Finish secondary angle work to specified dimensions and tolerances (hold tolerance of +/- .003” unless otherwise specified).
• Set up and operate all superfinishing machines.
• Finish and/or match grind multi-band bottoms.
• Perform match grinding.
• Chamfer parts on the manual lathe.
• Follow grinding instructions recorded in the customer profile and printed on the job traveler that accompanies the product to be worked on.
• Fill out required paperwork (QC sheets and time sheets), neatly, completely, and accurately.
• Perform preventative maintenance and 5S on machines and work area.
• Change coolants and grinding stones as required.
• Perform final inspection of parts going to customer.
• Coat, box, and wrap blades for transport back to the customer.
• Perform 1st piece and SPC required inspection of parts as dictated by the quantity of product sharpened.
• Set up and run razor blade machine.
• Help maintain inventory of supply items.
• Follow all company work and safety rules.
• Assist in handling internal and external customer problems, complaints, or questions upon request.
• Other duties as assigned and/or necessary.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED and minimum of three years of related experience required
• Ability to be extremely effective independently, with little supervision
• Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly
• Professional written and oral communication skills
Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials, reach with hands and arms, lift up to 40 pounds, use close, distance, peripheral, and color vision to view equipment and products, use depth perception while handling materials, and adjust focus while viewing equipment and products. Work takes place in an indoor production environment with adequate ventilation. There will be exposure to lifting and carrying items, vibration, and a typically loud noise level. Moderate physical activity will take place to perform somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
