The American Conservation Coalition is building the conservative environmental movement to realize a cleaner, more prosperous world that fosters collaboration in the pursuit of environmental conservation. Our growing team operates with excellence, executing our theory of change across grassroots, grasstops, communications, and administrative functions.
The Senior Technology Developer role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and will design and build a modern, AI-native platform consolidating member management (100,000+ and growing), donor tracking, and stakeholder communications into a single integrated system. Rather than configuring off-the-shelf software, this role will architect and build from the ground up, owning every layer from data model to user-facing workflow. This person will proactively audit organizational workflows, identify inefficiencies, and champion AI-driven solutions before we know to ask for them — not just build what's requested.
Every candidate who applies to work at ACC should demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to operate with excellence while living out our team values of Ownership, Resolve, Solidarity, Servant Leadership, Honor, and Excellence.
Responsibilities.
Platform & Systems Stewardship
- Maintain and administer the PostgreSQL-based member and donor database, ensuring data integrity, performance, and uptime at scale.
- Update and extend the data model as organizational needs evolve, including new fields, tables, and relationships.
- Maintain data hygiene and record-matching logic across a large and growing member database.
- Continuously evaluate team workflows across all departments, proactively surfacing opportunities to automate, streamline, or eliminate manual work through AI and systems improvements.
- Maintain and expand external application integrations, including linking Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, DocuSign, Monday.com, and other organizational apps into the operational workflow.
Member & Donor Operations
- Develop and maintain automated workflows for donor acknowledgments, membership renewals, lapsed-member re-engagement, and event communications.
- Implement and extend donation and membership tracking with full audit trail, segment tagging, and engagement scoring.
- Build and maintain a self-service member portal or intake workflow for new member onboarding and profile management.
Communications Automation
- Build and extend Claude API-powered drafting workflows, generating personalized donor communications, renewal notices, and campaign emails.
- Maintain bulk email workflows via the Gmail MCP connector with dynamic merge fields drawn from the member database.
- Develop and maintain event invitation and follow-up automation integrated with Google Calendar.
Reporting & Analytics
- Build and maintain dashboards connected to live member and donor data.
- Manage scheduled reporting workflows (weekly fundraising summaries, monthly membership trends, and lapsed-donor alerts) delivered automatically to leadership.
- Maintain and extend ad hoc query capability, enabling non-technical staff to ask natural-language questions of the database via AI tools.
Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
- Document all systems, APIs, data models, and workflows thoroughly in a maintained knowledge base.
- Train non-technical staff on day-to-day use of the platform, dashboards, and communications tools.
- Evaluate and incorporate new Claude capabilities and MCP connectors as Anthropic's ecosystem evolves.
Qualifications.
Required
- 3+ years of software development or systems engineering experience with production-quality code.
- Experience with AI agentic tools (Claude Cowork, Claude Code, or comparable desktop/file automation agents); familiarity and demonstrated curiosity is valued over years of experience, given how recently these tools have launched.
- Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript — able to build and maintain API orchestration scripts independently.
- Hands-on experience with the Anthropic Claude API or comparable LLM APIs (OpenAI, Gemini); understands prompt engineering, tool use, and agentic workflows; demonstrated habit of actively adopting and mastering new AI tools as they emerge.
- Experience designing structured databases and data models — relational thinking, query optimization, and deduplication strategies.
- Deep familiarity with Google Workspace APIs: Gmail API, Drive API, Sheets API, and Calendar API.
- Strong systems design instinct — able to translate organizational workflows into durable, maintainable technical architecture.
- A habit of asking 'why are we doing it this way?' and the initiative to propose and implement solutions unprompted.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a lean, mission-driven organization.
Strongly Preferred
- Background working with or for nonprofits, advocacy organizations, or politically-active membership organizations.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Supabase for relational database design, querying, and administration at scale.
- Experience with Google Looker Studio or comparable BI/dashboard tooling.
- Knowledge of DocuSign API for document automation and signature workflows.
Nice to Have
- Experience with lightweight front-end development (React or similar) for internal dashboards or member-facing portals.
- Familiarity with CRM data models — understanding of contact/household/opportunity schema.
- Prior experience migrating or consolidating messy legacy databases.
- Interest in environmental policy, conservation, or climate advocacy.
Compensation & Benefits.
- Salary: The range for this position is $140,000 - $175,000, commensurate with experience.
