POSITION SUMMARY:

The PMH-APRN provides advanced psychiatric care to individuals across the lifespan experiencing mental health challenges. This role involves comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning following state laws and organizational policies. The PMH-APRN collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of holistic and client-centered care.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications (under NP licensure and/or collaborating physician agreements).
  •  Assess and manage psychiatric crises, including conducting risk assessments, developing safety plans, and coordinating emergency interventions as necessary.
  • Monitor medication adherence and track side effects, adjusting treatment as needed to ensure client safety and therapeutic effectiveness.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests to ensure safe prescribing practices and monitor clients’ overall medical health.
  • Adhere to the scope of practice and fulfill all regulatory responsibilities, including documentation, compliance with state laws, and continuing education requirements.
  • Assess and manage psychiatric crises, including conducting risk assessments, developing safety plans, and coordinating emergency interventions as necessary.
  • Provide psychoeducation and brief supportive therapy.
  • Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, and case managers.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (PMH-APRN) in MD, DC, or VA.
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • DEA license for prescribing medications (if applicable).
  • Knowledge of family systems theory, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with children and adolescents, as well as diverse populations and trauma-impacted clients.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in community mental health or non-profit settings.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in psychiatric/mental health settings preferred.
  • Training in trauma-informed care or family systems therapy.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR).
  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

       *Primary work is performed onsite at the community mental health clinic, with some opportunities for community-based outreach or remote telehealth sessions.

       *Flexible scheduling may include some evening or weekend hours to accommodate clients.

       *Caseload will include a mix of ages and presenting problems, depending on program placement.
