About the Company
Ambient Biosciences is disrupting the biomolecule stabilization industry through its patented technology platform. The technology is broadly applicable across a range of biomolecules including proteins, enzymes, antibodies, nucleic acids, and cells. Benefits of the technology include elimination of cold chain shipping and storage, increased multiplexing of reagents, and reduced stabilization development costs. We operate a B2B stabilization-as-a-service business for reagents and a D2C stabilization tools business.
About the Role
The Electrical and Electronics Engineer II at Ambient will have a vital role in the development of our next generation D2C products. This role will own and lead the development of the electrical sub-systems for a variety of Ambient products with particular emphasis on PCBA design and testing, controls development, and wiring harness development.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Developing PCBA-based product features on Ambient Bio products (analog, communications, digital signal processing, etc.)
- Developing requirements and specifications for PCBA and power transfer sub-assembly design and component selection with considerations to load matching, noise reduction, signal integrity, etc.
- Solving challenging engineering problems by characterizing components, designing/prototyping analog front-end circuits, generating schematics, directing PCB layout, and debugging PCBAs in the labs.
- Defining test criteria and implementing test plans on functional prototypes in the lab to prove the reliability/safety of the designed subsystem.
- Developing PCBA and subsystem qualification fixtures; modify and integrate the existing electrical and subsystem designs to achieve the desired functionality.
- Collaborating with mechanical and control engineers to ensure appropriate integration of electrical systems into device builds
- Driving the development of new products and/or new product features from conceptualization, prototyping and initial testing through to production and validation for release.
- Independently developing and maintaining systems to monitor suppliers and ensure quality and quantity requirements are met. Develop and execute contingencies as needed.
- Developing manufacturing cost estimates. Driving efforts to identify manufacturing requirements, cost reduction and quality improvement opportunities, and evaluating potential manufacturing partners.
- Provide mentorship and support to junior electrical design engineers.
- Performing installation and qualification activities internally and at customer sites.
- Other routine laboratory experimental, data collection, troubleshooting, and manufacturing related tasks.
Requirements for this position include:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related fields with 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in PCBA design, assembly, testing and validation
- Proficiency in controls design and development (microcontroller and PLC programming)
- Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other International product safety standards, i.e., ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC
- Proficiency in schematic design and board layout (EAGLE PCB, Altium)
- Strong problem solving skills
- Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering and physics
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience with word processing software and data analysis software.
